It’s nice to see that the newsletter has a strong sporting flavour this week. It’s a sign that the spring is kicking in and facilitating those opportunities, even though today’s deluge contradicts that observation! Having said that, we’ve seen tennis, cricket, swimming and of course dance in abundance. Tonight, the PTA Fair takes place, so I look forward to seeing you later. One week to go until the Easter break!

Urdd Eisteddfod – We were delighted with the performances of our pupils at the Eisteddfod and three items have won through to the national event. The dialogue, Emma on flute and Xander on brass were all victorious, so huge congratulations to them. Emi-Lee finished second as did the recitation group, so a successful day all round.

Staff Danceathon – The week began in a surreal manner with the staff doing their bit for the Danceathon, peforming the Cha Cha Slide and the Senior Leadership Team doing the Macarena. I’m not sure whether to thank Jos and Emma or expel them!

Tennis Sessions – All classes enjoyed tennis taster sessions this week. Thank you to the Tennis Club for providing them. See twitter for photos.

Swimming Gala – Our swimming squad’s efforts were noted this week, as they represented the school in the Ruthin Gala. They’ve won through to the next round at the end of the month.

Dance Eisteddfod – Our dancing group and Georgia all danced superbly in the Dance Eisteddfod this week. They were truly impressive with their routines. Thank you to Mrs Parker and Gracie for all their work preparing.

Cricket – Year 3 and 4 enjoyed and developed their cricket skills in their session this week with Rob Ward. Thanks to him for his time.

PTA Fair – Thank you for the chocolate donations for the tombola. I hope you all enjoy the Fair. Thanks as ever to our hardworking PTA for organising.

Parents’ Evening – You should have received times for next week’s consultations. Any problems, please let the school office know.

Themed Lunch – On Tuesday a Dinosaur lunch will be served. See Twitter.

Nursery Literacy – Our Nursery pupils are progressing really well. They’ve been spelling their names this week, using planx!

Urdd Art – As previously mentioned, our pupils are invited to take part in the Urdd Art Competition. They will need to be members to compete and sent in all entries to school, clearly labelled by 9am on the first morning after the Easter break. I’ve attached a copy of the syllabus to the newsletter email.

ICT Permissions Form – There are still unreturned forms which makes it problematic in allowing those pupils access to Google Classroom after Easter. I’ve also attached an electronic copy to the newsletter email for any parents who have mislaid their copy. Please ensure it is returned by the end of next week. Thank you for your co-operation.

Twitter notifications – Just a reminder that you can set up notifications alerts on your twitter account so that you can be informed when we tweet. Take a look at your twitter settings for further details.

Achievers – Our Students of the Week are Arthur, Charly, Cain, Lucas, Isaac, Ben, Olivia, Faye, Deiniol and Milly. Welsh awards went to Dean, Katie, Katelyn and Thomas, while James received a swimming certificate.

Earth Hour – I hope many of you took part in Earth Hour last weekend. Thank you to those who tweeted us photos on Twitter.

Big Pedal – The Big Pedal comes to an end today. I hope it has encouraged many of you to consider making active travel a regular thing. Thanks again for the photos.

Estyn Case Study – After our inspection, we were invited to write a case study highlighting the school leaders’ strategic approach towards achieving excellent standards. It has now been published on the Estyn website.

Art Club – Art club with Elizabeth this week, involved the pupils truly becoming monsters, as they creatively experimented with silhouettes.

Digital Leaders – Our Digital Leaders met this week, to discuss the logo, how to support pupils and how we could involve parents regarding esafety at home. Thanks to Julie Debicka for her time.

After School Football Club – There will be no football held next week, but sessions resume after Easter on a Thursday evening.

Criw Cymraeg – Criw Cymraeg have met, to discuss the promotion of yard games during playtime, making instructional posters using Welsh vocabulary.

Wonderland Winner! – We had many entrants in the range of Wonderland activities and we were delighted to hear that Poppy had won the Smoothie Competition. She has been invited to a special activity in Denbigh next week.

Dog Dirt Campaign – Declan, Naima and Lily represented the school once again in a pupil consultation, as part of a local campaign to generate ideas on how to address dog mess in the local area.

Assembly Member Visit – Next week, Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar, will visit the school to congratulate us on our Estyn success.

Tempest – Any final orders for photographs will have to be received by 9am on Monday morning. Many thanks.

Microsoft – Multinational corporation Microsoft were very interested in Mikolaj’s work with Year 3 modelling the use of power point. Bill Gates’ company asked on twitter what the pupils thought of Miki’s work!

Tennis Open Day – Information regarding an Open Day at Ruthin Tennis Club is on our twitter feed, with free sessions available, to be held on April 6th.

One of our priorities in the School Development Plan this year has been to develop pupil voice and it’s been a delight to see the pupils take hold of the opportunities they’ve been given and really make themselves heard for the benefit of the school. In this newsletter you’ll read how our Eco-Council is influencing the development of the outdoor areas, while our Year 5 pupils have been teaching other classes in the Creative Project. We’ve also seen a completely pupil led Danceathon taking place today, so we can safely say that this priority is bearing fruit!

Eco-Council – The Eco Council met with Alan Miley from Denbighshire County Council to discuss and argue the case for a garden area that more reflects their ideas and needs. They want to see it match the consultation plans they were a part of in the planning stage, so are looking for changes! Thanks for your time Mr Miley. Watch this space!

ICT Permission Forms – A letter and form requesting your permission for us to create log-ins for our pupils to use essential ICT services such as Google Classroom, in order to conform to GDPR, has been sent home. We must receive these forms in order to provide these services. If you are yet to return it, please do so. If you need another copy, let us know.

County Eisteddfod – Good luck to our competitiors in the Urdd Eisteddfod tomorrow. All the details are on the letter sent home earlier this week.

Creative Project – Blwyddyn 5 led a session with Blwyddyn 2 this week about The Seasons. They prepared their own PowerPoint to introduce the topic and engage the children. They also taught Year 3 about trees, nature and helped the younger pupils make an animation of a tree.

Cricket Sessions – You can see photos of Year 2’s cricket session this week on twitter. Next week it will be Year 3 and 4’s turn.

Mother’s Day Service – A special Mother’s Day Service, which will recognise the restoring of the bell, will take place at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday 31st March at 10.30am.

Danceathon – Today, each class has taken their turn to take part in the Danceathon organized by Jos and Emma in aid of ‘Stand Up To Cancer.’ Thank you for the cake donations and a big thank you to the two girls for their maturity, for co-ordinating so well and their energy!

Earth Hour – This ecologically aware event, takes place this Saturday 8.30 – 9.30pm. We have taken part in years gone by, so please turn the lights out at home during this period and once again, tweet us your photos to share! https://www.earthhour.org/what-is-earth-hour

Mother’s Day – There have been lots of Mother’s Day activities taking place this week, as twitter will testify. I hope all our Rhos Street School Mothers are suitably spoilt on Sunday!

Big Pedal – The first week of the Big Pedal comes to an end. Please make sure you register your journeys in class. Also tweet any photos of your active travel journeys to school and we’ll share them!

Giggles – We want to thank the PTA for supporting Giggles, as they have funded resources for children’s play. Giggles have purchased two ‘wiggle bikes’ for the Infants and a digital camera filled with games and image screen shots for the Juniors. Diolch yn fawr!

Year 3 Malawi Links – Blwyddyn 3 have written letters to pen pals in Malawi. Not only do they contain some lovely friendly messages, but they are really well written indeed, reflecting the excellent standards our pupils are recognised for.

Parents’ Evening – Next week, you will receive appointment times for consultations, which will take place week beginning April 8th.

PTA Easter Fair – I’ve attached and tweeted a poster with details of next Friday’s Easter Fair. It’s own clothes again on that day, with chocolate tombola donations kindly requested.

Year 1 Living Classroom Visit – Year 1 had fun in the Living Classroom this week, identifying and estimating the age of different trees, creating artwork using leaves. They had storytime, filled an empty birdfeeder, played pooh sticks and created their own Forest School names.

Dance Eisteddfod – This event takes place on Tuesday from 4.30pm. Letters have been sent home with details and I wish all our competitors good luck!

Yesterday marked a year since we closed the doors of the old site on the other side of town. Every day, when I drive past on my way to and from work, it is a constant reminder of years gone by and it is sad to see it remains empty and unused ever since the last bell rang. That year has flown and in that period we have made our new home our own, got to grips with the new site and put our stamp upon it!

Roedd ddoe yn flwyddyn ers i ni gau drysau’r hen safle ar ochr arall y dref. Bob dydd, pan fyddaf yn gyrru heibio ar fy ffordd i ngwaith ac yn ôl, mae’n atgof cyson o’r blynyddoedd a fu ac mae’n drist gweld ei fod yn parhau i fod yn wag ers i’r gloch olaf ffonio. Mae’r flwyddyn honno wedi hedfan ac yn y cyfnod hwnnw, rydym wedi gwneud ein cartref newydd ein hunain, mynd i’r afael â’r safle newydd a rhoi ein stamp arno!

Year 3 Family Service – Congratulations to Year 3 for a fabulous Family Service this morning. We all learned a lot about Henry VIII and enjoyed the lively presentations, songs and the lighthearted moments. Thank you to Miss Davies for drilling them so well and for the parental support.

Tempest Photos – On Monday, individual, family and Year 6 will have their photos taken. Please let us know if you do not wish for your child to have their photo taken. Families with siblings who are not at Rhos Street can have their photos taken at 8.30. Family photos including only pupils at Rhos Street will be taken during the day.

Urdd Eisteddfod – It was a source of great pride that so many RSS pupils competed last Saturday. Well done to each and every one of them. We also were well represented on the stage in the afternoon, with many pupils and groups winning through to the next round. Take a look at our twitter feed for the full set of results.

Manchester Residential Visit – Year 6 have been provided with a letter which includes details of a forthcoming overnight residential visit to Manchester. I’d be grateful of a response by the end of next week, so any remaining places can go to Year 5 pupils.

Mother’s Day Free Press Pictures – These will be published on March 27th.

Cricket – Years 1 and 2 will have a cricket taster session on Wednesday, delivered by Cricket Wales.

Creative Project – As part of their Creative Project; engaged, motivated and very mature Blwyddyn 5 pupils have been leading sessions with Pupils in Dosbarth Derbyn, based on the book, ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ and in Year 1 on the theme of nature. Next week, they will be teaching Years 2 and 3.

Danceathon – Details of next week’s Danceathon, organised by Jos and Emma, including the timetable have been posted to twitter.

Restoring the Bells Service – A special Mother’s Day Service, which will recognise the restoring of the bell, will take place at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday 31st March at 10.30am.

Twitter / Flickr – Photos from the Family Service, Year 4 Romans and Urdd photos will be posted later to twitter and you can also see a host of Creative Project photos as well as class activities. Foundation Phase communication sheets are also posted weekly. Eira has also updated Flickr.

Achievers – Students of the Week are Poppy, Leyla, all of Year 3, Gabby, Dean, Thomas and Emma. Emi-Lee was awarded a Rose Bud sash! Well done all!

Comic Relief – A fantastic total of £513 was collected last Friday. Well done and thank you to all concerned!

Dance Eisteddfod – This event takes place on Tuesday, April 2nd after school. We have individual disco dancers and a group disco dance taking part. Full details will be sent out next week.

PTA News – The Easter Fair will take place on April 5th from 3.30-5pm. If anybody is able to help out, please email rhosstreetpta@gmail.com. On that date, we will have a non-uniform day, with donations requested towards the chocolate tombola. Many thanks for your continued support of the PTA whose efforts are as ever appreciated.

Pancake Presentation – Isabella won her race in the recent pancake races and on Monday she was presented with a certificate from Haf Roberts.

Attendance – A mid year attendance report has been sent home. I hope you found it of use in helping you assess your child’s attendance level in relation to the expected targets set.

Cake Boxes – We have cake boxes that are yet to be claimed from Red Nose Day in the school office. Please pop by and pick them up if one of them is yours. Thank you.

Chromebooks – The PTAs kind donation of 30 chromebooks have now been set up and are in regular use in the Juniors. I am delighted to be able to tell you that the school has also been able to fund the purchase of a further 30 devices to be used in the Foundation Phase after Easter.

St. Kentigern Elf Dash – In December, the pupils took part in an Elf Dash, chasing a very dodgy Santa to raise money for St. Kentigern Hospice. This week we presented a cheque to Trefor Roberts, which was gratefully received.

Head Lice – We have had further sightings reported, so please could everybody check their child’s hair and treat accordingly please.

Themed Lunch – On Monday, there will be a Dr Seuss themed lunch. The menu can be found on twitter.

County Eisteddfod – This takes place a week tomorrow, on the 30th March. A letter with full details of timings etc. will be sent home on Monday.

Eco-Council – On Wednesday, the Eco-Council will meet with DCC rep Alan Miley, to discuss their concerns over the unfinished garden area and the snagging of external areas. I am sure they’ll make themselves heard!

As you’ll be aware, we’ve been trying to encourage our pupils this academic year to make their voice heard and to step forward in organising activities and also sharing their ideas. We are really seeing the pupils shining as they do so. Our School Council have been very busy organising Comic Relief, our Eco Council have been consulted with on the Community Garden. The engagement shown by nearly all of our pupils has been a pleasure to see through all the many activities we’ve seen since half term. Long may it continue!

Mae’n bleser gwylio’r plant yn awyddus i gael eu llais wedi’w chlywed. Mae’r Cyngor Ysgol wedi trefnu gweithgareddau Comic Relief ac mae’r Cyngor Eco wedi cael cyfle i rannu syniadau am yr Ardd Cymunedol. Mae ymrwymiad y plant i’r amrywiaeth o weithgareddau a fu ers hanner tymor yn bleser i’w weld.

Urdd Eisteddfod – Good luck to our competitors tomorrow. Letters have been sent home with all details for tomorrow. Our musicians performed to the school on Monday and the other competitors had their turn this morning. I am very proud of them all and wish them well, hoping they enjoy competing.

Community Garden Consultation – Our Eco Council met with Vicky from Llanfwrog Community Garden to take part in a wider consultation on how to further develop the site. Last year, our pupils planted a plum tree there, so it was nice for them to get the chance to give further input on how they felt the site should look and how it should be used.

Big Pedal – This national initiative begins on the 25th March. It encourages active travel to school and depending on the level of engagement among our pupils, the school could win prizes. Mr Davis will speak to the pupils about it all on Monday.

Crisp Packet Recycle – The Eco Council have launched a recycling initiative, where pupils can recycle their crisp packets. A special bin has been sourced, with details on it. All crisp packets can be recycled, however popcorn bags, crisp tubes, pretzel bags or meat snack bags can not. Thank you to Megan Williams for the idea.

Year 3 Family Service – Next Friday will be Year 3’s turn to present their Family Service. Parents and relatives are welcome at 9am.

Tempest Photography – On Monday, March 25th, tempest Photography will visit to take individual, family and Class 6 photos. Please let us know if you do not wish your child to be photographed.

Danceathon – Jos and Emma have been organising a Danceathon to raise money for Cancer Research. This will take place on March 29th.

Wonderland – We had some special visitors this week and some of the Wonderland characters gave us a taster performance, as part of the Enrichfest Project taking place across the county. Pupils are also taking part in themed competitions which will whet their appetite for the pop up performance of the story which takes place after Easter.

Flickr – Eira is also updating Flickr, so comprehensive galleries of our activities are uploaded on an ongoing basis.

Mothers Day Photos – The Free Press will be publishing local schools’ Mothers Day pictures on the 20th and 27th of this month, so the Rhos Street efforts will be included on one of those dates.

Comic Relief – This morning has seen the pupils take part in a range of activities, games and competitions all in the name of Comic Relief. Well done to everybody for taking part but special thanks go to Miss Davies and the School Council for their sterling efforts organising the event.

Pancake Races – Thank you to those who collected sponsor money for the Pancake Races. A total of £60 was raised towards St. Kentigerns.

Attendance – Next week, the school will send home a mid year attendance report, which will serve as a useful indicator for parents on their child’s attendance levels in relation to the expected school target.

Achievers – Students of the Week were Oscar, Liam, Urte, Shreya, Maha, Stacey, Finley and Caitlin. A Welsh award went to Logan and a good manners certificate to Aiden. A special mention also went to Constance, who has qualified for the pony club national winter triathlon finals in Milton Keynes at the end of March.

PTA Meeting – Last night’s meeting was postponed. There will now be a meeting straight after school on Tuesday 19th March to discuss the Easter Fair.

Save a Life Cymru Video – Earlier this year, pupils filmed a video to help this initiative promote CPR. Today, our pupils were involved in filming a Welsh language version. We look forward to seeing the finished videos!
