Head Lice in School
We have recently had a number of reported cases of head lice in school.
Head lice are very common among primary-aged children and spread easily through close contact. We kindly ask all parents and carers to check their child’s hair regularly (at least once a week) using a detection comb.
If you find head lice or eggs (nits), please treat your child promptly. Effective treatments are available from pharmacies, and wet combing is also a recommended method. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/
A free treatment is available through the Common Ailments Scheme please contact your local pharmacy or health visitor for further information.
To help reduce the spread:
• Check your child’s hair regularly
• Treat as soon as lice are found
• Tie back long hair for school where possible
There is no need for children to stay off school if they are being treated, but prompt action helps protect the wider school community. Thank you for your support.

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

It has been an incredibly busy and productive half term here at school, with so much to celebrate and reflect upon. One of the key highlights has been our recent Estyn inspection, and I would like to thank our pupils, staff and wider community for their hard work, dedication and support throughout—everyone played their part in showcasing our school at its very best.
Alongside this, there has been a real buzz around the school, with a wide range of activities, learning experiences and achievements taking place across all year groups. From classroom successes to events and extracurricular opportunities, it has certainly been a full and rewarding few weeks.
As we reach the end of this busy period, we are all ready for a well-earned half term break. I hope that everyone has the chance to rest, recharge and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.
Wishing you all a safe, happy and relaxing half term. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on June 1st as we begin our final half term of the academic year together.

Year 6 Dragon’s Den
Year. 6 launched their very own drink brands yesterday, pitching and selling to the juniors as part of their exciting Dragon’s Den enterprise projects.
The children worked incredibly hard in teams to design, develop and market their products, showcasing a wide range of skills including creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and confidence in presenting their ideas. From eye-catching branding to persuasive sales pitches, every detail had been carefully planned and delivered with enthusiasm.
The event created a real buzz around the school, with younger pupils keen to visit each stall and sample the different drinks on offer. Every single stall sold out—a fantastic achievement and a true testament to the quality of the products and the effort that went into them.
We are incredibly proud of Year 6 for their innovation, determination and entrepreneurial spirit. They have truly demonstrated what can be achieved through teamwork and hard work—well done to all involved.

Year 4 Sleepover Success
Overnight Year 4 pupils enjoyed a fantastic school sleepover—an exciting opportunity that created lasting memories for everyone involved. One of the highlights of the evening was stargazing, where pupils had the chance to look up at the night sky and spot a variety of stars and even some planets. It was a truly magical experience that sparked curiosity and wonder among the children.
The sleepover was filled with fun, laughter and shared experiences, helping to build confidence, independence and friendships. Of course, after such an exciting night, we’re sure there may be a few tired faces today!
A huge thank you goes to our dedicated staff who gave their time and energy to make the event such a success, as well as to parents and carers for their continued support. This is a wonderful achievement for such a meaningful and worthwhile cause, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who took part, supported, and donated. Events like this truly show the strength of our school community and the positive impact we can have when we work together.
Well done to all involved – you should be very proud!

Weekly Wellbeing
This week’s quote is from Albert Einstein (1879–1955), the world‑famous scientist best known for his curiosity, creativity and perseverance. As a child, he struggled in school and took longer than others to find his way, but he believed strongly in not giving up when things are difficult. Einstein’s life reminds us that resilience, patience and persistence are just as important as talent.

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

— Albert Einstein

Achievers
This week’s amazing achievers are: Brodie, Penelope, Kalani, Sebastian, Ollie, Archie, Caleb, Willow, and Nancy.
Sydney, Alfie, Eva, Amelia, Rupert, and Thea all received Welsh awards. Well done to them all!

Mawrth 20fed/March 20th

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

It’s been a bright and cheerful start to the astronomical spring, with the sunny weather giving everyone an extra lift as we move into the final stretch of the term. School has been full of energy and activity, and we’re delighted to share some of the wonderful things that have been happening this week.
Our learners have continued to impress us with their enthusiasm for the Big Walk and Wheel, making fantastic sustainable journeys each day. It’s been lovely to see so many pupils walking, wheeling, scooting, and cycling to school — well done to everyone taking part.
Classes have also been enjoying their library visits, diving into new books, and developing a real love of reading. A special highlight this week was the Year 4 Family Service, where pupils shared their learning with great confidence and pride — thank you to all families who joined us.
Looking ahead, a reminder that parental consultations will take place next week as we bring this term to a close and prepare for the Easter break. We look forward to meeting with you and celebrating the progress your children have made.
Wishing you all a lovely start to spring and thank you for your continued support.

We’re almost there — just one week to go in The Big Walk and Wheel!
Our crowded bike and scooter racks tell the story of what a fantastic week it’s been so far. We’ve seen so many brilliant sustainable journeys — walking, wheeling, scooting, cycling, and plenty of creative “park and stride” efforts too. Thank you to everyone who has taken part with such enthusiasm.
Every single journey makes a difference:
⭐ supporting physical and mental wellbeing
🌍 helping reduce congestion and pollution around school
🚦 building healthy habits for the future
😄 and bringing lots of smiles along the way!
Let’s keep up the amazing work for the final week. Whether you take part once, twice, or every day, every effort counts and contributes to our whole‑school success.
Thank you for your continued support — let’s finish strong and make this our best Big Walk and Wheel yet!

Pupil Online Safety Group Update
Our Pupil Online Safety Group met this week and were absolutely fantastic. The children were fully engaged, thoughtful, and enthusiastic as they worked together to create a new set of child friendly online safety rules for our whole school community.
They shared brilliant ideas about how to stay safe, be kind, and make good choices online. We’re really proud of the maturity and teamwork they showed throughout the session.
We’ll be sharing their finished online safety rules with all pupils and families very soon.

Meningitis Awareness Update
You may have seen recent news reports about several cases of Meningitis B in Kent. Although there are no linked cases in Wales, Public Health Wales has shared guidance to help schools and families stay informed.
Meningitis and meningococcal disease can develop quickly, so it’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms, which can include fever, headache, vomiting, muscle pain, cold hands and feet, a rash that doesn’t fade under pressure, and drowsiness.
Public Health Wales has produced helpful information for families about recognising symptoms and reducing the spread of infection, as well as details about current vaccination recommendations. These resources are attached for anyone who would like further guidance.
If you have any concerns about your child’s health, please contact a healthcare professional promptly.

Resilience Poster Competition – Years 2–6
We are excited to launch a whole school Resilience and Growth Mindset Poster Competition for pupils in Years 2–6. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to celebrate the importance of being brave, keeping going when things are tricky, and learning from mistakes.
Children are invited to design a bright, colourful A4 poster that shares a positive resilience message such as “Mistakes help us learn!”, “Keep trying!”, or “Brave learners don’t give up!”. Posters should include clear, bold lettering and creative illustrations or patterns.
All entries should be completed on the reverse of the sheet provided, with the pupil’s name and class written on the back (not the front).
The competition is open to all pupils, and one winning poster from each class will receive a special prize.
Closing date: Friday 10th April
Top tips for pupils:
• Make your message easy to read
• Use bright colours that stand out
• Choose a positive, inspiring growth mindset phrase
• Be creative and have fun!
We can’t wait to see the wonderful, uplifting designs our learners create.

Year 4 Family Service
Our Year 4 pupils led a wonderful Family Service this morning celebrating their love of reading and the authors who inspire them. The children shared their favourite books with great enthusiasm and even presented their own book reviews, showing real confidence and insight.
We were also treated to some beautiful singing in both English and Welsh, which really showcased their hard work and talent. It was a joy to see how proud they were to perform for their families.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Hughes and the Year 4 team for preparing such a thoughtful and uplifting service. We are also very grateful to all the parents, carers, family members, and friends who joined us and supported the children — your presence made the occasion even more special. Well done, Year 4!

Road Safety Project Funding Success
We are delighted to share that our school has received £300 in funding to support our joint road safety collaboration with Ysgol Pen Barras and Ysgol Borthyn. The project, “Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt,” aims to help children understand how to stay safe on and around our local roads, promoting awareness, responsibility, and safe travel habits.
This generous contribution has been provided by Swayne Johnson Solicitors, through their Charitable Trust Initiative, who have a long history — over 100 years — of supporting charitable initiatives and community projects benefiting children, young people, the elderly, and many local causes. We are extremely grateful for their commitment to our community and for helping us move this important project forward.
A huge thank you to everyone in our school community for your ongoing support. We look forward to sharing more about the project as it develops.

‘Don’t Steal My Future’ Workshop
This week, our Yr. 6 class took part in the Don’t Steal My Future workshop, delivered by trained professionals from RASA Wales. The session is designed for young people aged 10+ and focuses on helping them understand consent, healthy relationships, and how to keep themselves and others safe.
The workshop is part of a wider North Wales programme aimed at giving young people clear, age‑appropriate information to support their wellbeing and future choices. The content was delivered with great care, sensitivity, and professionalism.
If you would like further information about the programme, you can find details on the RASA Wales website.

Celebrating Our Silver Cymraeg Campus Award!
We are incredibly proud to announce that our school has achieved the Silver Cymraeg Campus Award — a fantastic recognition of our strong Welsh ethos and commitment to promoting the Welsh language across all areas of school life.
A huge diolch yn fawr goes to Mrs Lewis, whose dedication, hard work, and passion for Welsh has been at the heart of this achievement. She has inspired staff and pupils alike, and we are very grateful for everything she has done to help us reach this milestone.
Our pupils played a key role too, showcasing their enthusiasm for speaking Welsh in lessons, around the school, and in a wide range of activities. Their positive attitudes, confidence, and pride in using the language were highlighted throughout the assessment process.
This is a wonderful achievement for our whole school community, and we look forward to continuing our journey as we strengthen and celebrate our Welsh identity even further. Llongyfarchiadau pawb — well done everyone!

Red Nose Day 2026
Today we celebrated Red Nose Day, and the school was full of colour, laughter, and kindness! Our pupils and staff really got into the spirit of the day, with plenty of fun activities, smiles, and of course — lots of red noses.
Red Nose Day is all about making a difference, and we are so proud of how our school community came together to support others. The children showed wonderful enthusiasm, generosity, and compassion throughout the day.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated, or helped make the day special. Your support helps raise funds for important causes, and it was lovely to see the whole school unite for such a positive event.

Weekly Wellbeing
This week’s quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882) the American poet, essayist, and philosopher whose work often celebrated nature, simplicity, and the human spirit. His reflections continue to inspire mindfulness and appreciation for the natural world — especially at this time of year, when spring brings colour, warmth, and hope.
