Mehefin 19eg/ June 19th

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

What a busy and exciting time it has been in school! It has been lovely to finally enjoy some warmer weather, with lots of opportunities for learning and activities outdoors.
This week, we have been marking Drowning Prevention Week, with our pupils taking part in RNLI Water Smart sessions to help them understand how to stay safe around water—an important and potentially lifesaving message.
We have also been busy supporting our Yr. 2 pupils through transition activities, helping them feel confident and ready for the next stage of their learning. Meanwhile, our Year 6 pupils have been enjoying their sports afternoon at Brynhyfryd, showing great teamwork, effort, and enthusiasm.
It’s been wonderful to see so much happening across the school, and we are very proud of how our pupils have embraced all these opportunities.

Head Lice in School
We have recently had a number of reported cases of head lice in school.
Head lice are very common among primary-aged children and spread easily through close contact. We kindly ask all parents and carers to check their child’s hair regularly (at least once a week) using a detection comb.
If you find head lice or eggs (nits), please treat your child promptly. Effective treatments are available from pharmacies, and wet combing is also a recommended method. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/
A free treatment is available through the Common Ailments Scheme please contact your local pharmacy or health visitor for further information.
To help reduce the spread:
• Check your child’s hair regularly
• Treat as soon as lice are found
• Tie back long hair for school where possible
There is no need for children to stay off school if they are being treated, but prompt action helps protect the wider school community. Thank you for your support.

Drowning Prevention Week – Water Safety

As part of Drowning Prevention Week, pupils in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 took part in an RNLI Water Smart session. The children learned important skills to help them stay safe in and around water, including how to recognise risks and what to do in an emergency.
The sessions were engaging and informative, and the children showed great enthusiasm while learning such valuable, potentially lifesaving knowledge.

Rhos Street School – PTA Summer Fair
We are excited to invite families to our PTA Summer Fair on Monday 22nd June at 3:15pm. We look forward to welcoming you to this fun and vibrant community event.
Please note that it will also be an Own Clothes Day on the same day. We would be very grateful for any donations of chocolate to support the summer fair. Thank you for your continued support

Year 6 Sports Afternoon – Ysgol Brynhyfryd
Blwyddyn 6 had a fantastic Sports Afternoon at Ysgol Brynhyfryd on Wednesday. The pupils took part in a wide range of activities, making the most of the beautiful sunshine and showing great teamwork, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout.
It was especially valuable for the children to meet and spend time with future classmates from other schools ahead of their transition in September. This helped to build confidence and excitement about the next stage of their journey.
A big thank you to Ysgol Brynhyfryd for organising such a well-run and enjoyable event — a memorable experience for all involved!

Yr. 2 Reading Club
Please note there will be no Yr. 2 reading club this week. Reading club will resume week beginning 29th June. Many thanks.

#7ForRupert Challenge – Get Involved! ⚽
We would like to share an opportunity for our school community to take part in a special awareness challenge, inspired by Rupert, a one-year-old child living with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC).
AHC is an extremely rare neurological condition, affecting approximately 1 in 1 million people. It can cause episodes of paralysis, seizures and other complex symptoms. Despite these challenges, Rupert continues to bring joy and inspiration to those around him.
To help raise awareness, Rupert’s family has launched the #7ForRupert Challenge, linked to the excitement of the World Cup.
How to take part:
• Complete 7 keepy-uppies (or as many as you can!)
• Record a short video
• hare it on social media using #7ForRupert
Nominate 3 others to join in
This challenge is not about football ability, but about having fun, being active and helping to raise awareness of a little-known condition. We would love to see our pupils and families getting involved and supporting this fantastic cause. Every participant helps raise awareness and share Rupert’s story a little further.
Thank you for your support 💛 #7ForRupert | #RupertsRainbow | #AHC
