Gorffennaf 3ydd/ July 3rd

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

This week has brought some welcome relief from the very hot weather, with cooler temperatures making conditions much more comfortable for everyone. However, forecasts suggest that we may see a return to much warmer weather next week. As always, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep families updated should any changes to our usual arrangements be necessary.
It has been another incredibly busy and exciting week at school. Pupils have enjoyed Sports Days, visits to the Living Classroom, a wonderful piano recital, and our Year 1 Family Service. We were also delighted to receive and share the outcome of our recent Estyn inspection.
The next two weeks promise to be just as busy as we approach the end of another successful academic year. There is still much to look forward to, with a range of activities, celebrations, and opportunities for pupils to enjoy. Although the summer break is now coming into view, we remain focused on making the most of every remaining moment and ensuring the year finishes on a high.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you enjoy reading about all that has been happening across the school this week.

Year 3 Piano Performance
It was wonderful to see our Year 3 children confidently demonstrating the piano skills they have developed through their music
lessons. They performed a concert for the rest of the school, showcasing their hard work, commitment and growing musical talents. The children should be very proud of their performances, and we would like to thank everyone involved in supporting their musical journey. Well done, Year 3

Estyn Inspection Report Published
We were delighted to receive the published report from our recent Estyn inspection this week. The report recognises the calm, caring and inclusive environment at Rhos Street School, the positive relationships across the school community, the commitment of staff, and the good progress made by our pupils.
We are incredibly proud of our children, who were excellent ambassadors throughout the inspection, and would like to thank our staff, governors, parents and carers for their continued support and dedication.
While celebrating our many strengths, we also welcome the recommendations identified by Estyn, which will help shape our future school improvement priorities.
The full report is available to read here: ESTYN: Rhos Street School
Thank you for your continued support and for sharing in our pride in this achievement.

Outstanding Trip Payments
A polite reminder to parents and carers to please ensure that any outstanding payments for school trips are made as soon as practicable via the ParentPay app.
If you have any questions or require support regarding payments, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Sports Days 2026
This week, we were delighted to hold our Foundation Phase Sports Day on Tuesday, followed by our Junior Sports Day on Thursday afternoon. Both events were a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration of sport, teamwork and school spirit.
The children were absolutely fantastic throughout both days. They demonstrated determination, resilience and enthusiasm in every event, while also showing excellent teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship. It was particularly pleasing to see pupils encouraging one another, celebrating successes and, most importantly, having fun.
A huge thank you to all our parents, carers, family members and friends who came along to support the children. Your encouragement helped create such a positive atmosphere and made the events even more special. We would also like to thank everyone for their flexibility and understanding as we adapted arrangements around the changing and unpredictable weather conditions.
Special thanks go to Mrs Liddy, Mrs Davies and all members of staff for their hard work in planning, organising and running the events. Sports Days require a great deal of preparation behind the scenes, and we are very grateful for all their efforts in ensuring the children had such enjoyable experiences.
Congratulations to all pupils who took part, and a special well done to Green Team, who were this year’s overall winners. We are incredibly proud of every child for the effort, determination, and positive attitude they showed throughout the week.
Well done, everyone.

Year 1 Family Service
A huge congratulations to our Year 1 children for their wonderful Family Service this week. They spoke, sang and performed brilliantly, confidently showcasing just how much they have learned and achieved throughout the term. It was a delight to see their enthusiasm and pride as they shared their learning with families and friends.
We would like to thank Miss. Roberts and her team for their hard work in preparing the children for the service. Miss. Roberts has been a tremendous asset to the school whilst covering during Mrs Bevan’s absence, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication and commitment.
Finally, thank you to all the parents, carers, family members and friends who came along to support the children. It was wonderful to see so many people in attendance for our final Family Service of the academic year. Well done, Year 1, on a fantastic performance!

Pentrellyncymmer & Nant BH Residential Visits
A reminder to parents and carers that the Pentrellyncymmer and Nant BH residential visits are live on ParentPay. If your child is interested in attending either residential, please pay the deposit as soon as practicable.
At present, we are below the minimum number of pupils required for the visits to run. If sufficient numbers are not reached, unfortunately the viability of the trips may be affected.
We would be grateful if families could indicate their interest by paying the deposit at their earliest convenience. Thank you for your support.

Equality and Human Rights Commission Consultation
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has launched a consultation on its new technical guidance for schools in Wales.
The guidance aims to support schools in understanding their legal responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, including protecting pupils from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. It covers a range of areas, including admissions, exclusions, access to education, school facilities and support for pupils with protected characteristics.
The EHRC is inviting feedback on how clearly the guidance explains schools’ responsibilities and whether it accurately reflects current legislation.
The consultation is open until 30 September and schools, parents and other stakeholders are encouraged to take part.
You can access the consultation here: take part in our consultation Thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Nursery and Reception Visit to Pirate Adventure
Our Nursery and Reception children had a fantastic visit to Pirate Adventure at the Nova Centre yesterday. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring, playing and taking part in a range of exciting activities with their friends. The children were a credit to the school and had a wonderful day filled with fun, laughter and adventure. Well done to all involved.

Sun Safety Reminder
With forecast temperatures expected to rise again next week, we would like to remind all parents and carers of the importance of keeping children safe in the sun.
Please ensure your child comes to school with:
• Sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) applied before school
• A named water bottle
• A sun hat
Children may bring sunscreen into school if they are able to apply it independently. To help keep everyone safe, we ask that spray sunscreens are not brought into school, as there have unfortunately been incidents in the past where children have been accidentally sprayed in the face.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and take appropriate measures to ensure pupils remain safe and comfortable during periods of hot weather. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Weekly Wellbeing
Heraclitus was an Ancient Greek philosopher who believed that change is a natural and important part of life.
As children look ahead to new schools, classes, and experiences, this quote reminds us that change can help us grow, develop new skills and discover new strengths. We encourage everyone to embrace the opportunities ahead with confidence and a positive mindset.
“The only constant in life is change.” – Heraclitus
