Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

Well, here we are already at half term, but looking back over the eight weeks’ newsletters, tweets and all the comprehensive communications over the half term, it’s clear how busy the pupils have been, how many opportunities they’ve been given and also the extent that many of those opportunities go above and beyond the ones included in the normal curriculum. I am as ever grateful to the staff for providing all those wonderful opportunities, giving the pupils at Rhos Street a rich educational experience. I also speak for us all in thanking those who take their time to show their appreciation for those efforts. We approach the week’s break with heavy hearts and continue to be touched by the empathy shown by the school community towards the staff and pupils as we come to terms with losing Jill. I hope all have a lovely time and return ready to approach the final half term before Christmas full of energy once again.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Goodbye Mr Oakes – Mr Oakes, who successfully led our MAT Maths sessions over many years, is moving onto other important projects. He held his final session with our pupils this week. We thank him, wish him well & look forward to preserving his legacy with Mrs Lewis picking up the baton after half term.

Funeral Arrangements – Jill’s funeral will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, October 29th at Flintshire Memorial Park and Crematorium, CH76DF. A warm welcome is extended. Preferably no black to be worn and no flowers. No donations are requested at the service, but if any parents wish to make a donation in her memory, then you are most welcome to send one into school and we will choose an appropriate charity to receive the money collected in her name. The wake will be held at The Celtic Arms, Northop Country Park Golf Club, CH76WA at 4pm.

What’s App – I know What’s App can be a useful tool to share class information for parents. However naming other parents’ children is something I respectfully ask you not to do. If anything needs to be brought to our attention then please communicate it directly to class teachers. Many thanks.

Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

A very difficult week for Rhos Street comes to a close, following the sad death of our colleague and friend, Jill Jackson. Despite the tragic circumstances, the reaction of the school community and the way everybody has supported one another has been notable and is something we can gain great comfort from. As I said in my letter to you all on Wednesday, her roles at the school were wide-ranging and always carried out to the highest of standards. There is now a gulf in her absence. A Book of Condolence is in the entrance area for anyone who wanted to to have a private moment and write a personal message to recognise and remember Jill. We all sympathise greatly with Jill’s family as they grieve. Any details regarding further arrangements that the family wish to share, will be done in due course. Thank you for your messages, emails and offers of help and support. They have meant a lot to us this week.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Other than recognize our achievers, and our plans for next week, I am going to wait until the next edition to share news from activities and so forth. Likewise, the twitter account will tweet as normal from Monday.

Achievers – In a poignant service this morning, all classes were recognized for their strength, sensitivity and empathy while dealing with the events of the week. Class awards were also shared with Kaden, ConnieD, ConnieT and Lily. Holly received an Over and Above award, a Welsh award went to Maizie, and a swimming award to Kian. Tiffany has also received a silver award in gymnastics.

Arrangements for Year 2 – Our very best wishes go to Mrs Liddy, who has unfortunately suffered fractures to her leg and ankle after a mishap out running at the weekend, while training to run a marathon. We hope she’s feeling better very soon as she recuperates from her operation. Mrs Jan Hughes has agreed to cover Year 2 in the interim period. Mrs Hughes is well known to the school and has worked with us for significant periods over the last three years and is highly capable. She’s been wonderful with the Year 2 pupils in what has been a difficult week. Of course, we have to also make arrangements to replace Jill in Class 2 and Jayne Mayers has been entrusted with the support role in Year 2 for the time being. Jayne has significant experience of working with Mrs Liddy, so is also highly suited to this role, due to her knowledge of the way Year 2 operates so succesfully. We also have Miss Davies, a student teacher on placement in this class, so have additional support for the pupils.

Parental Consultations – These will commence from Monday.

‘Shwmae Sumae’ – We will on Wednesday be taking part in a day of Welsh activities to promote the use of the language. More news next week.

Urdd Football – Good luck to our squad in the Urdd Football next week.

Site Update – I have received the following information regarding addressing the school field:
“The DCC Grounds Maintenance team will undertake work to improve the shared playing field surface. To take advantage of the good weather, they started Wednesday, by cutting the existing grass to expose the areas that need addressing. They will cut back the hedge between the field and the main playgrounds to avoid the need for other contractors to enter the playing field. Work will then start over the coming weeks to improve the surface of the field when high quality topsoil will be bought onto the site.“
I will as ever, endeavour to keep you updated,

Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
Our Harvest Service was a delight to watch this morning. The children sang the songs and performed their pieces with enthusiasm and skill. A huge thank you to them and the staff for preparing them so well. As ever, our thanks go to Rev. Stuart and St Peter’s for hosting us. We’re also grateful to Buddug for the musical accompaniment and to parents for the donations to Ruthin Food Bank. As ever, thank you to the school community for their support in church.

Roedd ein Gwasanaeth Diolchgarwch yn hyfryd i’w wylio y bore yma. Canodd y plant y caneuon a pherfformio eu darnau gyda brwdfrydedd a medr. Diolch enfawr iddyn nhw a’r staff am eu paratoi mor dda. Fel erioed, diolchwn i’r Parch. Stuart a St Peter’s am ein croesawu. Rydym hefyd yn ddiolchgar i Buddug am y cyfeiliant cerddorol ac i rieni am y rhoddion i Fanc Bwyd Rhuthun. Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
With the Urdd Eisteddfod being held in Denbighshire next year, it was nice to kick off the first of the academic year’s activities in such a positive fashion. Girls’ football has really gone from strength to strength here at the school in the last couple of years and I hope all of our girls are inspired by our school team’s success and want to participate in this flourishing sport.

Gydag Eisteddfod yr Urdd yn cael ei gynnal yn Sir Ddinbych y flwyddyn nesaf, roedd yn braf cychwyn y weithgareddau’r cyntaf o’r flwyddyn academaidd mewn modd mor gadarnhaol. Mae pêl-droed merched yn wir wedi mynd o nerth i nerth yma yn yr ysgol dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf a gobeithio y bydd pob un o’n merched wedi’u hysbrydoli gan lwyddiant ein tîm ysgol ac eisiau cymryd rhan yn y dyfodol.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Urdd Football – Our girls performed fantastically to finish second in this Denbighshire tournament. They were pipped to first place by Bryn Hedydd School in Rhyl, but they can certainly hold their heads up high and look forward to further successes no doubt. Over to you boys!

Parking – It is becoming ever clearer, that some parents from both schools are increasingly bending the rules of the car park, making the risk of an accident ever greater. Could all drivers please ensure that they:
• use the appropriate entrance / exit
• only park their car in a designated parking spot
• do not leave their car in a drop off zone or on a kerb
• do not exceed the 10mph speed limit
• do not leave children unattended in their cars
Many thanks for your co-operation.

We will be practising in church on the Thursday morning at 9.45am. On both occasions, we would be grateful of parental help in walking the children to St. Peter’s Church and back. On both mornings, we will leave school at 9.15pm. We are also collecting food donations for the Ruthin Food Bank, so would be grateful if they could be brought to school on the Thursday morning. Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
The Living Classroom has been a place to be very proud of this week! First of all, it provided the harvest that produced a stupendous apple and blackberry crumble, which was enjoyed by all who tasted it, including yours truly. In addition to this, it was a place where Year 6 bonded with the Reception pupils as they took them on a tour of our special outdoor learning spot.

Mae’r Dosbarth Byw wedi bod yn le i fod yn falch iawn ohono yr wythnos hon! Yn gyntaf oll, fe ddarparodd y cynhaeaf a oedd yn cynhyrchu crymbl afal a mwyar duon hynod flasus, a fwynhawyd gan bawb a’i blasodd. Yn ogystal â hyn, roedd yn le gwnaeth Blwyddyn 6 fondio â disgyblion y Dosbarth Derbyn wrth iddynt fynd â nhw ar daith o amgylch ein man dysgu awyr agored arbennig.

I have sent out a pro-forma so that we can add all interested pupils names to parent pay in order to pay for the subscription, which is £8, increasing to £10 after Christmas.

School Council Charity Initiative – Our School Council have decided on their first activity of the year and it promises to be an exciting one. They are raising money for the Red Cross to support refugees. Between 30th Sept and Oct 14th, they are encouraging pupils to complete as many miles as possible. The money raised will help address those refugees affected by global humanitarian crises. Sponsor forms have been sent home today.
