Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
There was a surreal start to the week when I was suspected of being the Hedgehog on ITV’s The Masked Singer. The pupil in question will have to wait until Hedgehog’s unveiling to see how I have been spending my Saturdays! A busy week followed, with lots on Twitter to disgest and the week ended highly positively, with many of our pupils being recognised for their excellent writing in a Rotary competition in today’s service.
Roedd dechrau swrrealaidd i’r wythnos pan oeddwn yn cael fy amau o fod y Draenog ar The Masked Singer ar ITV. Bydd yn rhaid i’r disgybl dan sylw aros nes i Hedgehog ddadorchuddio i weld sut rydw i wedi bod yn treulio bob dydd Sadwrn! Dilynodd wythnos brysur, gyda llawer ar twitter i fwynhau a daeth yr wythnos i ben yn gadarnhaol iawn gyda’n disgyblion yn cael eu cydnabod am eu hysgrifennu rhagorol mewn cystadleuaeth Rotari yn ein gwasanaeth heddiw.
Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,
Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth
Rotary Young Writers Competition – Rotary President Peter Jones and Youth Coordinator Mike Watkin Jones visited today, to first of all talk about the Rotary’s extensive work, and then present all pupils who took part in a Young Writers competition with a certificate and prizes to our winners. Leo was 3rd, Freya 2nd and Theo 1st. Thank you to Mrs Reece for her work with the children.
HwB Microsoft Products – Every child at Rhos Street has a Hwb account, accessible both at home and at school for their classwork. Pupils in schools in Wales, are able to download and install the latest Microsoft Office tools, as well as Minecraft: Education at no cost on up to 15 devices – through Hwb. https://hwb.gov.wales/microsoft
VOC Netball – Well done to our team for their unbeaten run in the inter schools Vale of Clwyd festival this week! Good luck at the Urdd netball next week!

Gymnastics recognition went to Poppy, Sophia and Piper, while football medals were awarded to Jay and swimming awards to Jenson, Charlie and Gabby. Well done to all of them!
VOC Indoor Athletics – Our squad of Year 6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the athletics meet at Brynhyfryd and finished third out of all schools competing.
Food Hygiene Workshops – A special performance of ‘Pirates of the Chillbean’ takes place here on Tuesday, plus some food hygiene workshops.
Year 5 Transition – Year 5 have an art and technology transition session at Brynhyfryd on Wednesday Feb 5th. Could they all be in school for 8.45 please?
Welsh Music Day – We will recognise Welsh Music Day next Friday with activities and also listen to some Welsh tunes.
Urdd – I think I have sorted out the Urdd competitors today and registered them all. I’ll go through lists with the pupils and any final additions have to be made on Monday at the latest.
Family Services – Year 4 will have their Family Service on Friday February 7th, with Year 5’s taking place the following Friday, the 14th Feb. Parents and relatives are of course warmly welcomed to join us on both occasions.
PTA Disco – The poster for the forthcoming PTA Disco on February 14th is attached.
Wellingtons – If you have any wellingtons at home that have been outgrown and are no longer needed, then if you were able to donate them to us, we’d be very grateful. They’ll come in useful for visits to the Living Classroom if not everybody has come kitted out.
HwB Permissions – We have nearly received HwB permission forms for all pupils. We need these returned to allow pupils access to important class based resources such as Google Classroom. Duplicate copies have been sent home recently, so if you have received another copy, I’d be grateful if it could be signed and returned.
Urdd Swimming – Well done to Nathaniel Grant for representing the school last weekend, all the way down in Cardiff in the National Urdd Swimming Gala. What a great experience!
Drop Off Parking – Once again, may I please ask all parents could refrain from using the drop off zone as a parking space, because it can inconvenience other vehicles. Please park in a parking space if you wish to walk pupils into school, or walk in to pick them up. Many thanks for your cooperation.
Twitter – Take a look at Twitter for photos of Year 3 project work, Vale of Clwyd netball and athletics, Nursery activities, a video from Year 4 brass lessons, Year 1 and 6 visits to the Living Classroom, Year 4 PE, Year 2 ICT and measuring tasks. There’s also a link to the gallery of photos from the Cardiff trip, which is on Flickr.
