Ionawr 13eg / January 13th

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

It was wonderful to welcome everyone back to school on Tuesday after our, much deserved, Christmas holidays. There were a lot of bleary eyes on Tuesday morning as the reality of returning to school dawned, staff definitely included, but everyone is, mostly, over the shock and now back in the swing of school life and ready and raring to face the challenges of the new term.

Christmas Photos
If you have ordered and paid for cast photographs, and have not yet received them, please email me and I will ensure they are sent over. Some ‘idiosyncratic’ spelling and handwriting on the email form, as well as the many and varied vagaries of group emails, may have meant that you have not received the initial email message.

School Closure due to Adverse Weather
As the cold days of January beckon, and threats of possible snow next week, I wanted to make you aware of the protocols should the school have to close due to bad weather. In the event of adverse weather closing the school information will be shared on the school’s Twitter account. It is not always possible to access group emails from outside of school, but if possible an email message, outlining the closure, will be sent to parents and carers. Information on schools closed by adverse weather can also be found at: https://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en/resident/education/emergency-school-closures.aspx

Music Tuition
This term’s music tuition fees are now on ParentPay. Please could all previous term’s outstanding payments be made as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Head Lice
I have been informed that there is an incidence of head lice in the school at present. Please can you check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. Additional advice on detection and treatment can be found by following this link: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/

Universal Free School Meals
The roll out of universal free school meals has gone very well, since our return, with all Yr. 1 pupils now having the opportunity to receive a free school meal. There is unfortunately a cross-county issue with the automatic till system, which is currently being addressed, which may lead to incorrect charges being made to Reception class pupils’ ParentPay accounts for school lunches. Please ignore any Reception class school lunch charges. Many thanks.

Absence Request
I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of the local authority and school policy on term-time absence. Parents have a legal duty to ensure that their children attend school or the alternative provision on a regular basis. The Education Act 1996 makes it a criminal offence for a parent to “fail to secure their child’s regular school attendance at the school”. The view of Denbighshire County Council is that no term time holidays should be approved and headteachers must not grant any leave of absence (holiday) during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Exceptional circumstances are one-off events which are unavoidable and are based on the individual circumstances and the relevant context behind the request.
Examples may include:
• the death or significant illness of a close family member or friend
• the attendance at a wedding or funeral of a person close to the family
• where an absence is recommended by a health professional as part of a parent or child’s rehabilitation from a medical or emotional issue
• observance of a religious holiday or event

Parents do not have entitlement to take their child out of school for a holiday in term time. Please see attached: TAKING A HOLIDAY DURING TERM TIME -A GUIDE FOR PARENTS

Achievers
This week’s brilliant achievers are:
Tomos, Tahapenes, Amelia, Arlo, Daisy Madalyn, Harri, Neve, Eden, Esme, Bradley and Esme.
Well done to them all!

Yours sincerely /Yn gywir

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

The, lengthy, autumn term draws to a close, and it’s been full to bursting with all manner of activities, from reindeer farm visits, Nant BH and Pentrellyncymmer residentials, football tournaments, adventures in the Living Classroom, not to mention lots of good old-fashioned teaching and learning. Many thanks to the wonderful Rhos St school community for their ongoing support, it is very much appreciated. As we hand over some, simultaneously tired and excited children, a classic pre-holiday combination, all of the staff here at Rhos St School would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Free School Meal Payments information for parents and guardians
Denbighshire County Council has welcomed news that the Welsh Government are continuing to make funding available to make free school meal payments for eligible pupils during school holidays, in response to the cost of living crisis. The Council have made arrangements for these payments to be made for the forthcoming Christmas holidays (26th December to 6th January), with the payment due to be made on Friday 23rd December.
Parents / guardians are being informed that the payments will be made based on eligibility for Free School Meals.
This is completely separate to the roll out of Universal Primary Free School Meals which has seen Reception age children being able to access free meals this school term and will be extended to Year 1 pupils in January 2023.
Councilor Gill German, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, Children and Families, said: “We welcome this funding as it will provide reassurance to some families, given the cost-of-living crisis. We want to make sure all children receive a proper meal and this payment, made directly into bank accounts of eligible parents automatically, will help with this cost. ”For more information go to: https://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en/education-and-schools/grants-and-funding/free-school-meals.aspx

Car Parking
I have been informed by the taxi drivers that some parents are parking in the drop off area at the end of the school day. Ysgol Rhos St and Ysgol Pen Barras have been in consultation with Denbighshire County Council who will, in the new year, be demarcating a dedicated taxi rank on the school yard. Until this takes place I would request that parents do not park in the drop off area, at the end of the school day, as the taxi drivers are not authorised to walk children across the school car park and require the close proximity, offered by the drop off area, in order to safely collect the children travelling with them. Many thanks for your support in relation to this.

Christmas Shows
We are immensely proud of all of our children who shone so brightly in their Christmas performances. The acting, singing and dancing on display was wonderful and after the limitations imposed in recent years, it was lovely for school to feel like a primary school should at Christmas time. Many thanks to parents, carers and family members for supporting the performances. A huge thank you also to the brilliant staff of Rhos St school, whose dedication, professionalism and patience made this year’s shows the great success that they were. I am extremely grateful for their efforts and also for their own time that they gave to the evening performances. The money raised from ticket sales, cast photographs, refreshments and raffle tickets will be put to very good use, in the new year, for the children of the school.

As we head off for the holidays, and the cold days of January beckon, I wanted to make you aware of the protocols should the school have to close due to bad weather.

Christmas Sing-Along
No individual achievers this week, they’ve all done so well! So here are some pictures from our Christmas sing along in the hall this morning. Despite me singing, much to the abject horror of the children, a great time was had by all!

Rhagfyr 16eg / December 16th 2022

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

A rather chilly week nears its end, but I’m pleased to say that even though the frosty weather has curtailed some play times and lunchtimes this week, it certainly hasn’t stopped it being chocked full to bursting with activities. All the children loved the very Christmassy, snowy trip to the reindeer farm and the fantastic Junior shows on Thursday were a storming success. Foundation Learners ‘strut their stuff’ next week as we bring this, lengthy, term to a close.

North Hills Reindeer Farm

The children had a lovely, festive time at the reindeer farm on Wednesday. The weather could not have been more appropriate and it was a real treat to see the faces of the children when they were nose-to-nose with the reindeer. Their behaviour was, as you would expect, superb and a little bird has told me that we were the best-behaved school to visit. I’m not at all surprised, but very proud of all the children. Many thanks again to parents and carers far supporting the trip and to the Rhos St PTA for subsidising the cost. A trip to definitely repeat in future years.

Christmas Concerts
The Junior Christmas concerts were held on Thursday and all the children shone in both performances. Lovely singing, dancing and great acting skills on display, we are incredibly proud of all of the children for their hard work and dedication which showed through so clearly in their sterling performances. A huge thank you to Mrs. Davies and her brilliant Junior team for their hard work in preparing the children and organising everything so well, and to the fab Rhos St PTA for providing the refreshments. Tuesday 20th December is the turn of the Foundation Learners to perform for you all. We are all very excited to see, what I’m sure will be, a wonderful show. Doors open at 1:30pm for the matinee and at 5:00pm for the evening performance on Tuesday. Additional parking is available at Ruthin Football Club.

Roof Repairs
Despite the cold weather Pen y Bryn Joinery have been valiantly continuing with the repairs to the roof. They are intending to complete our works and remove the scaffolding before moving on to Ysgol Pen Barras. We will, fingers crossed, be returning in the spring term to a scaffolding-free school!

Universal Free School Meals – Yr. 1 Roll-Out
From the new Spring term 09/01/2023 onwards the Universal Primary Free School Meal offer will be extended to include Year 1 pupils i.e. all Reception and Year 1 children will be offered Universal Free School Meals. This is another important step in reaching the shared ambition of ensuring no child goes hungry while in school. All Reception and Year 1 pupils in Denbighshire schools will be asked on a daily basis whether or not they would like to access a school meal. They will be able to opt in or out without having to pre book and the meal will be provided free of charge. Further information on UPFSM is available on the Denbighshire website www.denbighshire.gov.uk/education. If you are eligible to receive Free School Meals because you receive a qualifying benefit, we recommend that you apply for Free School Meals as you will also be eligible for the school uniform and equipment grant. To find out more, including what the qualifying benefits are and how to apply, visit Denbighshire County Council’s free school meals page: https://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/en/education-and-schools/grants-and-funding/free-school-meals.aspx Please rest assured that if your child is currently in receipt of free school meals and/or any other associated benefits, these will not be affected.

Scarlet Fever / iGAS
Please can I request that school is notified if your child has received a diagnosis for Scarlet Fever or invasive group A Streptococcus (iGAS) as we have a duty to inform Public Health Wales of any confirmed cases. In order to minimise transmission within the school, I would further request that children who are in the process of being tested should not attend school until they have a negative test result or 24 hours after commencing antibiotic treatment. Many thanks for your support in this important matter.

Kick-It Sports
Kick-It Sports are offering a Christmas/New Year Sports session running at Rhos St on Tuesday 3rd of January 9:00am – 2:00pm, for children 4 – 12 years old. Please find attached a poster with the details for the session. You can book a place for your child on the course by following this link: https://bookwhen.com/kickitsports

Toy-Box Appeal
As we approach the end of this school term we are extremely mindful of the challenges faced by many families in these challenging difficult times. At this time of year staff at school occasionally receive very kind gifts from parents and carers. There is, of course, no expectation at all of this, but staff are extremely grateful for the generous gesture. This year school staff have requested that any parent or carer wishing to give a gift instead donate to the North Wales North Wales Superkids Toy Box Appeal –registered charity: 1159804. This appeal is looking for donations of new toys for disadvantaged families. Information can be found here about the campaign: https://www.northwalessuperkids.co.uk/toy-box-appeal Donations of new toys can be left at the Ruthin Co-op store. Many thanks.

Achievers
This week’s brilliant achievers are: All of the Reception class, Finley, Verity, all of Yr. 3, all of Yr. 4, all of Yr. 5 and, guess what, all of Yr. 6! Louie shared his Taekwondo certificate and Eva shared her Karate trophies. We were also treated to a lovely violin recital from Jessica.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Andrew Davis, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Rhagfyr 9fed / December 9th 2022

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

The colder weather is definitely letting us know that winter is here, but thankfully it has not prevented the work on the school roof from going ahead. We have now a full set of working skylights in the Yrs. 5/6 corridor, which has made an appreciable difference to the temperature in there. The whole school is gearing up for our Christmas performances and we all have our fingers crossed that certain infectious illnesses (not naming them as they might be listening) don’t have an impact on the cast… I’m really hoping I won’t have to make my debut this year as stand-in for Donkey No4!

Mr. Jones
We have been notified that Mr. Bryn Jones has been successful in attaining the permanent post of Core Lead for Flintshire within GwE’s North Wales Regional Education Service. Mr. Jones had been seconded to the GwE consortium, since January of this year. This secondment will continue until he takes up his permanent role at the start of the summer term 2023. We are of course saddened to hear that Rhos St will be losing its headteacher, who has given so much to the school for so many years, dealing with the increasingly diverse challenges of the role as well as providing such professional, positive leadership for both pupils and staff alike as well as forging extremely constructive and productive relationships with the school community as a whole. Mr. Jones will be very much missed at Rhos St, but we are also tremendously happy for him as he moves on to the next phase of his career, one to which we are sure he will bring the same drive, focus and dedication that he brought to us at Rhos St School. We wish him every continued success in the future, GwE are very lucky to have him. Rhos St’s governing body will, in due course, be beginning the process of appointing a new headteacher for the school. I will, of course, keep you updated of any developments.

Nursery and Giggle Daycare Communication
I would request that any communication pertaining to Giggles Daycare be through the messaging applet of the Seesaw application or by telephone, through the school’s contact number 01824 702565. All Seesaw messages will be answered, within Giggles Daycare operating hours, as promptly as is practicable. May I also request that any messages for Nursery staff be through the school office, or via email to: andrew.davis@denbighshire.gov.uk , not sent to Giggles Daycare staff to be passed on please. Many thanks, in advance, for your support in relation to this matter.

Christmas Lunch
Thursday was our Christmas lunch at school and a resplendent, Christmas feast was laid before the appreciative pupils and staff. Huge thank you to Jane and her team for the wonderful festive spread and for all of their hard work feeding us so well here at school, not just for Christmas lunch, but every day! They say an army marches on its stomach, a school definitely does!
You can view the current menu and see information about forthcoming theme days in the canteen by following PenRhos Cinio on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084488469932

Kick-It Sports
Our Kick-It Sports multi-skills club began on Monday for the Yrs. R, 1 and 2 pupils. From the look of them afterwards all the children had an intensive and great fun session. The next session is on Monday 19th of December with two subsequent sessions on the 16th and 23rd of January. Kick-It Sports are offering a full-day (5 hour) sports session, here at Rhos St, on Tuesday January 3rd 9:00am – 2:00pm. The day costs £16 and can be booked through this link: https://bookwhen.com/kickitsports#focus=ev-swdo-20230103090000

Christmas Concert Additional Tickets
The tickets for the foundation learners’ and Juniors’ Christmas concerts have been selling like hot cakes! Any available tickets will be available to purchase from the school office from Monday 12th December, for the junior concert and from Friday 16th December for the foundation learners’ concert. In order to be as fair as possible the number of additional tickets available for purchase, for each family, will be dependent on the number of extra tickets available for each respective performance.

Achievers
We have not had the chance, in recent weeks, to share our achievers, due to various courses, visits and Christmas performance practices, so it is lovely to be able to share our amazing and talented achievers this week:
Maya, Albie, Abi, Harry, Oliver, Grace, Joe and Henry. Sylvia performed an amazing violin solo to the whole

Rhagfyr 2ail / December 2nd 2022

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

The first newsletter in a while, due to a Mental Health First Aid course and trips to Pentrellyncymmer and Nant BH. The school is presently alive with Christmas performance preparations, a ‘Wooly-Bundles’ear-worm already inexorably wriggling its way into my head, and, as usual, the school is a hive of activity of all kinds. There have been signs of staff, all over the school, venturing Indiana Jones like, into the dark recesses of store cupboards, fighting off spiders and wrangling cardboard boxes full of tinsel, you can definitely sense a seasonal flavour, and the glint of a bauble or two, as you move around the place.

Reindeer Farm Visit
I shared previously, via email and Twitter, information regarding the visit to the North Hills Farm reindeer farm, please see attached letter. I am extremely grateful to the, always brilliant, Rhos St PTA for subsidising the visit and to our school admin team for organising all of the diverse elements that such trips require. In brief, the trip will take place on Dec 14th with Yrs. N, R, 1 & 2 visiting the farm in the morning and returning to school at approximately 12: 30pm. Nursery children, usually collected at 11:30am, will need to be collected at 12:30pm or arrangements made with Giggles Daycare. The children will have their lunch on their return to school at 12:30pm.
Yrs. 3, 4, 5, & 6 will have their lunch at 11:45am – 12: 15pm and will depart at
12: 30pm to North Hills Farm and will return to school by 3:15pm. Consent and payment for the visit need to be completed, via the ParentPay app by Friday 9th of December please. Children will need outdoor footwear and an appropriate winter coat and clothing for the day.

Pentrellyncymmer / Nant BH Photographs
After two very successful, if a little chilly at times, visits to Pentrellyncymmer and Nant BH outdoor education centres, the pictures taken have now been uploaded to the school’s Flickr account, accessible through the school’s website: https://rhosstreetschool.co.uk/ Internet and connectivity issues at the Nant BH site meant that it was impossible to share images of the children, at the centre and on activity, and keep parents and carers updated, as we usually like to do. Many thanks for bearing with us and for your patience in awaiting the photos, as you will see they are definitely worth the wait.

Christmas Concert Tickets

As our, much anticipated, Christmas concerts draw near I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you information regarding purchasing tickets for the respective shows. There will be a matinee and evening performance of the junior children’s Christmas show Squeak on Thursday 15th of December and a matinee and evening performance of the foundation learners’ show Tinsel and Tea Towels on Tuesday 20th of December.
Due to fire-safety regulations, limiting the number of people permitted in the school hall for each performance, two tickets will be allocated to each family per performance. Parents with children in both phases, foundation learners and juniors, will be allocated two tickets per show for both phases. Tickets cost £2.50 per ticket and can be purchased in the school office. In order to reduce congestion at busy times in the foyer, such as at drop off and pick up, ticket orders can also be left at the school office, with payment in cash and a note of the tickets required, in an envelope. These orders will then be processed during the day and the tickets sent home with your child. From Monday the 12th of December any tickets that have not been sold, for the junior concerts, and from Friday the 16th for the foundation learners’ shows, will be available for purchase, should additional tickets be required for extended family or friends.

Roof Works
We are very excited in school that Pen Y Bryn Joinery are beginning the works to reinstate the roof windows in the Yrs.5 and 6 corridor and to repair the damage caused to the roofing in the foundation learner’s wing. It has been over a year since storm Arwen wreaked havoc across the country, unfortunately taking its toll on the school in the process. Pen Y Bryn Joinery will be coming after school today to set up a safety enclosure, from which they will be working over the following days. On Monday (5th) the Yr. 6 pupils will be having their lessons in the Doughnut Room and all pupils will be using the foundation learners’ yard, at scheduled times, for break and lunch playtime. Pen Y Bryn are hoping to have the window units fitted within a day, but this may be affected by ice on the roof or wet weather. There are some additional works scheduled, on both school sites, for the next week or so, but these should have minimal impact on the running of the school. We are very much looking forward to being scaffolding free at last!

PTA Christmas Fair Volunteers
Rhos St PTA are looking for anyone who would be able to offer a helping hand at the forthcoming PTA Christmas Fair, on Tuesday 6th December. Please let Emma Phipps, or the school office know if you’re able to help out. Many thanks in advance.

Christmas Theme Day
A brilliant response to the PTA’s Christmas Theme day, many thanks to parents and carers for rooting in wardrobes to find those elusive Christmas jumpers. The children looked resplendent in their Christmas finery and there was a very tempting pile of chocolate donated for the PTA’s chocolate tombola. We are all very excited for the Christmas fair on Tuesday 6th,,please see poster attached with this email, as the festivities begin to ramp up here at school. More pics on Flickr soon!

Hydref 28ain / October 28th 2022
Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

An extremely busy, not to mention extremely long half term draws to a close. I think it would be fair to say that all of the pupils, and most definitely the staff are more than ready for the half term break. This half term certainly hasn’t finished with a whimper, with this week being stuffed to the gunwales with activities of all kinds. We can all, hopefully, recharge our batteries over the half term holiday, ready for the return to school on November the 7th.

Postcards from the Future Competition

Denbighshire County Council are running a postcards from the future competition looking to gather young people’s views on the future. This gives them chance to express some of their hopes and anxieties which could influence the actions of adults. The intention is to see the futures our young people imagine and the innovative environmental and/or climate solutions they may come up with. We have sent home a copy of the competition template today and I have attached the template and a completed example to this email and on Twitter. Children can either write about or draw their visions for the future. Please can all entries be returned to school before the closing date on Friday 11th November 2022.

Pentrellyncymmer / Nant BH Consent Forms
Please can all remaining payments and consent forms, online and paper elements, be completed for the forthcoming Pentrellyncymmer trip by the 9th of November. All Nant BH payment and consent forms need to be completed by the 16th of November please. Unfortunately, pupils will be unable to take part in the scheduled residential visit if there is an outstanding balance or incomplete consent documentation pertaining to their place.

Harvest Service
Huge congratulation to all the children for their wonderful performances at the Harvest Service on Tuesday. It was wonderful, following the periods of restrictions, to be able to head out into the local community again and to celebrate harvest time in such a positive way. A big thank you to the staff for preparing the children to perform so well, Reverend Natasha for offering us such a warm welcome at St Peters’ church, to Rachel for offering to play the piano and to all of the parents, carers, family and friends who came along to support us. Thanks also for the very kind donations of produce towards Ruthin Food Bank.

Sports for Champions
We were very lucky on Wednesday to have a visit from Beverley Jones a 5x Paralympian medal winner. Beverley gave a presentation all about her athletics career, her training methods, nutritional information for athletes as well as demonstrating some discus technique. All of the children were then put through their paces in a fitness circuit which certainly had them all working hard. A huge thank you to everyone who raised sponsor money for the event which will go towards Team GB and Rhos St. The current total is £117 raised! If you have any additional sponsor money please can it be brought into school as soon as possible. A special mention needs to be made of Sam Cholewa who raised the greatest amount and was a Gold-Medal fundraiser, having a special picture taken with Beverley, well done Sam!

Rhos St Twitter
There has been a little confusion around the use of our Rhos St Twitter account which I would like to take this opportunity to clarify. The school’s Twitter account is to enable staff to share the learning experiences and exciting activities that go on in school as well as allowing us to effectively evidence specific targets that the school is working on as a whole through the use of hashtags. The Twitter account also allows us another media pathway to share information both at a class and school level, but is not the only or main way that information is disseminated to the school community. As with this weekly newsletter information is shared, whenever feasibly possible, by email to the relevant parents and carers to whom it pertains. If you think that you may not be receiving emails please inform the school office and we will ensure that the email address we have in our records and group lists is updated.

Tesco Donation
Many thanks again to Tesco Ruthin for their very kind donation of food towards our harvest collection for Ruthin Food Bank.

Cross Country
Well done to all the children who took part in the Vale of Clwyd cross country competition this morning. Mrs. Davies and Mr. Pearson accompanied the children down to Ruthin Rugby Club where they all ran their socks off. Thank goodness the weather was kind as it looked like the beginning of the apocalypse first thing…I was sure I caught a glimpse of four horsemen at one point. The children gave a great representation of themselves with five of them getting through to the next stage on Wednesday 9th of November at Denbigh High School.

Halloween Disco
A big thank you to the, always brilliant, Rhos St P.T.A for organizing the Halloween Disco on Thursday. The school hall was transformed into a creepy Halloween lair and there were some fantastic, spooky costumes on show with the children having a fabulous time scaring each other, and the teachers! There were a couple of instances of green-dragon tail pulling, not by children I might add, but that is now in the hands of the lawyers! Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the event which raised over £388 for the school. The Halloween costume winners, who will receive a prize from the PTA Snack Attack were: Emily, Leo, Poppy, Thea, Tommy and Scarlett well done to them.

Addressing Queries and Concerns
Just a quick reminder that any queries or concerns regarding your child at school should be taken, in the first instance, to the class teacher. The class teacher is the best person, in the vast majority of cases, to be able to answer directly any query or concern you may have. Additional information can then be obtained, should it be necessary, by discussing the issue with the phase leaders: Mrs. Liddy and Mrs. Davies. I am, of course, happy to discuss any issues subsequent to these initial steps. Many thanks for your support.

WWII Cooking
The years five and six classes are currently learning all about World War II as part of their theme work. They had a tasty treat this week when they worked with our brilliant school cook Jane in making WWII recipes. Carrot cakes and apple tarts were on the menu and I can confess that they were very tasty indeed. Huge thanks to Jane for working with the children and letting them loose in the kitchen. Jane also, very kindly, gave up her own time to allow the PTA to access the kitchen for the Halloween disco. We are extremely grateful for her generous help and support.

Achievers
This week’s fantastic achievers are: Caleb, Jaxson, Verity, Oliver, Isla, Charlie, Eira, Jacob, Amelia,
Gwybor Cymraeg went to: Harri, Chima, Billy, Eden, Thomas, Maisie and Will.
Elsie shared her dance European Championships trophies and Jessica shared her bronze and gold gymnastics medals and certificate, she has qualified to represent the area in the National Gymspire finals!
Well done to all of our achievers!

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

Not that it hasn’t been lovely hearing the preparations, all around the school for the Harvest Service next week, but I have the most horrendous ear-worm, more of an ear-anaconda actually, continually playing in my head, which is now to the point that if I hear another rendition of Cauliflowers Fluffy I may spontaneously combust! But, psychological scarring aside, there are still lots of great things going on in our final week before the half-term break. We have our Harvest service on Tuesday, Sports for Champions event on Wednesday and the Halloween disco on Thursday all of which will whip the children into a wild frenzy before sending them home on Friday for the half-term break… you’re welcome!

Harvest Service
We have our Harvest-Service practice on Monday, to iron out the wrinkles ready for the tour-de-force of the real thing on Tuesday. We will be setting off from Rhos St at about 9:30am and walking up to St Peter’s church on both days. If any parents, carers or relatives are available to walk with the Foundation Learners on Monday and/or Tuesday can they please meet us at the front entrance at about 9:20am? Many thanks. We are hoping to begin the Harvest Service on Tuesday at 10:00am and parents, carers, relatives and friends are all more than welcome to attend and should arrive prior to 10:00am please. Could I request that the audience seat themselves on the pews at the rear of the church as the children will require the front pews. As part of the Harvest Service we are asking for donation of non-perishable produce for Ruthin Food Bank, if you would like to donate could all items be brought to school on Monday please. The weather forecast is looking positive for Tuesday, but we do have the contingency of holding the Harvest Service in the hall if the weather conditions are unsuitable for children to walk to
and from the church. I will keep you up to date nearer the time if we have to change our plans.
Sports for Champions Event
On the afternoon of Wednesday 26th we will be welcoming Bev Jones to Rhos St. She is a Paralympic Shot Put and Discuss athlete who has competed at 5 Paralympic Games. You can view information about Bev Jones by following this link: https://www.sportsforchampions.com/beverley-jones/
The event will be an excellent opportunity for pupils to work with an Olympic Paralympian and to raise funds for both Team GB and for Rhos St. Please can any sponsor money be brought in to school by Tuesday 25th. Many thanks for your support.

Filming – Universal Free School Meals Promotion
Unfortunately, the filming of or Foundation Learners for the Denbighshire County Council promotional material has been postponed. I will share the new filming date when it has been finalised.

Kick-It Sports
