Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
What a fantastic week it’s been here at Rhos Street! The children have been busy taking part in a range of exciting activities that have kept spirits high and feet moving. We kicked things off with our Sponsored Walk in support of Wales Air Ambulance, where pupils showed great enthusiasm and energy while raising money for a truly worthy cause.
Our Year 3 pupils enjoyed a fascinating visit to Nantclwyd y Dre, exploring local history and deepening their understanding of life in the past. Their curiosity and interest were a credit to the school.
To round off the week, we had some valiant performances at the Vale of Clwyd Cross Country event, with pupils showing determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout.
Sponsored Walk Success – Supporting Wales Air Ambulance
We’re thrilled to share that our recent Sponsored Walk was a great success! Pupils from Classes 2–6 at Rhos Street School joined forces with children from Ysgol Pen Barras on Wednesday 24th September for a meaningful and energetic walk, in support of the Wales Air Ambulance.
This special event was a wonderful example of collaboration and community spirit, brought to life by the dedication of Sally Smith, a local resident who worked tirelessly to organise the fundraiser. Her commitment and enthusiasm helped make the day both enjoyable and impactful for everyone involved.
We are proud to support such a vital cause, and we’re incredibly grateful for the generosity shown through donations. If you would still like to contribute, donations can be made via the following link: https://www.walesairambulance.com/donate-v2
Please remember to reference Sally Smith in the comments section to acknowledge her fantastic efforts.
Thank you to all pupils, staff, and families for your support in making this event a memorable one!
Headlice & Nits – A Reminder to Check
We kindly remind all parents and carers to regularly check their child’s hair for headlice and nits. These can spread quickly in school environments, so early detection and treatment are key to preventing further cases.
Please take a few minutes each week to inspect your child’s hair, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If headlice are found, prompt treatment is essential, and children can return to school once treated.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep our school community healthy and comfortable.
Harvest Service – Wednesday, October 15th
We are delighted to invite families to our upcoming Harvest Service on Wednesday October 15th, where pupils will share individual class harvest pieces and join together in whole school songs to celebrate the season of gratitude.
To help us manage space and adhere to fire safety regulations, we will be holding two separate performances:
Foundation Phase Performance – 9:30am
Junior Phase Performance – 1:30pm
We kindly ask that families attend only one performance, based on which phase their child is in. This will ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all attendees.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this joyful occasion with our school community.

Naming School Uniform & Belongings
A gentle reminder to please ensure that all items of school uniform and personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This really helps us return lost items quickly and reduces the number of things that end up in our lost property box. From jumpers and coats to water bottles and lunchboxes—if it comes to school, please pop a name on it!
Thank you for your support in keeping things organised and helping us reunite items with their owners.
Netball Club with Mrs. Davies
We’re excited to let you know that Netball Club is up and running again! Led by Mrs. Davies, the club takes place every Wednesday from 3:15pm to 4:15pm for Yrs. 3-6.
It’s a great opportunity for pupils to stay active, build teamwork skills, and have lots of fun. All abilities are welcome—whether you’re new to netball or already love the game. Don’t forget your trainers and water bottle!
Holidays During Term Time
As we settle into the school year, we’d like to kindly remind families about the importance of regular school attendance and the impact that time away from school can have on learning and progress.
We understand that holidays are a special time for families, but we ask that any planned absences during term time are avoided wherever possible. Time away from school can disrupt routines and make it harder for children to keep up with their learning.
If you do need to request time off during term time, please contact the school office in advance so we can advise on the correct procedures. Absences can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us give every child the best chance to thrive and succeed.
Bikes and Scooters Request
We are currently looking to expand the opportunities available to our Foundation Phase learners by introducing more outdoor physical activities. To support this, we would be incredibly grateful for any donations of suitable bikes or scooters that your child may have outgrown and are still in good working condition.
These resources will help our youngest pupils develop their balance, coordination, and confidence in a fun and engaging way during outdoor play.
If you have a bike or scooter, you’d be happy to donate, please speak to a member of staff or drop it off at the school office.
The Power of Reading Together
At Rhos Street CP School, we believe that fostering a love of reading is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our children—and it starts at home.
Reading with your child, even for just a few minutes each day, has a powerful impact on their education. It helps to build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop confidence in speaking and listening. More than that, it nurtures imagination, curiosity, and a lifelong love of stories and learning.
We encourage all parents and carers to make reading a regular part of your home routine. Whether it’s sharing a bedtime story, exploring a non-fiction book together, or letting your child read to you, these moments make a real difference.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us build strong, enthusiastic readers. If you’d like any recommendations for age-appropriate books or tips on how to make reading fun at home, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.
Vale of Clwyd Cross Country – A Fantastic Effort!
Well done to all our Year 3–6 pupils who took part in the Vale of Clwyd Cross Country event at Ruthin Rugby Club this morning.
It was wonderful to see so many children embracing the challenge with a brilliant ‘have-a-go’ attitude, showing bravery, determination, and team spirit throughout the races. Whether they were seasoned runners or trying something new, every pupil gave it their best and represented Rhos Street School with pride.
Thank you to the staff and families who came along to support, and congratulations to all the children for their fantastic effort!
