Hydref 3ydd/ October 3rd

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

As we head into the weekend, Storm Amy is forecast to bring some blustery weather our way—so do take care if you’re out and about! Despite the wind picking up, it’s been a wonderfully busy and enriching week here at Rhos Street.
Our pupils have enjoyed hands-on learning during their visits to the Living Classroom, exploring nature and deepening their understanding of the world around them. Preparations are also well underway for our upcoming Harvest Service, with children practising songs and readings that promise to make the event a truly special celebration of community and gratitude.
Meanwhile, our sporty stars have been showing great teamwork and enthusiasm at the Urdd football tournament—well done to everyone who took part. Wishing all our families a safe and restful weekend.

Netball Club with Mrs. Davies
Just a quick update that Netball Club will now take place every Wednesday lunchtime for pupils in Years 5 & 6. This change allows pupils who are involved in our brass sessions with Denbighshire Music Cooperative to enjoy both opportunities without missing out. A huge thank you to Mrs. Davies for generously giving up her free time and being so flexible to make this possible. Netball Club is a fantastic way for pupils to stay active, build teamwork skills, and have lots of fun. All abilities are welcome—whether you’re new to netball or already love the game. Pupils just need to remember to bring their trainers.

Safety Reminder – Scooters and Bikes
We kindly ask for your continued support in ensuring that children follow the safety signage around the school, which clearly states that cyclists and scooter riders must dismount when approaching the school on pavements and pathways. This is a vital safety measure to protect all members of our school community. Unfortunately, a child was injured this morning after being knocked over by another pupil riding a scooter. We are keen to prevent any further incidents and ensure that everyone arrives at school safely. Please take a moment to remind your child of the importance of dismounting and walking their bike or scooter when near the school gates and on school pathways. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our school environment safe for everyone.

Missing Coat – Can You Help?
We kindly ask families to check at home for a brand-new black Zara coat belonging to Eve Musgrave. The coat is named and may have been taken home by mistake. If you come across it, please return it to the school office. Thank you for your help in locating it and for your continued support.

Black History Month – Live Assembly
This morning, pupils took part in a live assembly to mark Black History Month, joining schools across the country in celebrating the achievements, stories, and contributions of Black individuals throughout history.
It was a valuable opportunity for reflection, learning, and inspiration—and our pupils engaged brilliantly throughout.

School Council Leadership Team Elected
We’re pleased to share that our School Council has now elected its leadership team for the year! Following thoughtful discussions and voting within the council, the roles of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretaries, and Treasurer have been filled by pupils eager to make a positive impact. These councillors will play an important role in shaping life at Rhos Street CP School, helping to represent pupil voices, support school initiatives, and contribute ideas that make our school an even better place to learn and grow. We’re excited to see the leadership team in action and look forward to the contributions they’ll make throughout the year. Well done to all involved.

Urdd Football
On Tuesday, our Years 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Urdd football tournament, and we couldn’t be prouder of their performance! The teams played with great enthusiasm, showing impressive skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the day. Their sportsmanship and behaviour were exemplary, both on and off the pitch, representing Rhos Street CP School with pride and respect. A big well done to all who took part—you were a credit to the school! Thank you also to the staff and families who supported the event.

Hello Yellow Day – Friday 10th October
We’re proud to be recognising Hello Yellow Day on Friday 10th October to show our support for young people’s mental health. Pupils and staff are invited to wear something yellow to help raise awareness and spread positivity across our school community.
Hello Yellow, is part of a national campaign led by YoungMinds UK, and while wearing yellow is a fun way to get involved, it also helps spark important conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
If you’d like to learn more about the campaign, please visit: https://www.youngminds.org.uk/support-us/fundraising/helloyellow/

Reception & Year 6 Visit the Living Classroom
Yesterday, our Reception and Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Living Classroom, where they explored the natural environment and took part in hands-on learning activities. The children had a brilliant time discovering wildlife, engaging with outdoor challenges, and working together across year groups. It was wonderful to see the older pupils supporting the younger ones, creating a lovely sense of teamwork and community. Staff were incredibly impressed with the pupils’ enthusiasm, excellent behaviour, and curiosity throughout the visit. They represented Rhos Street CP School beautifully and made the most of this enriching outdoor experience. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the visit such a success!

Weekly Wellbeing
Rachel Carson was an American marine biologist, author, and conservationist whose groundbreaking work helped launch the modern environmental movement. Her most famous book, Silent Spring (1962), exposed the dangers of pesticides and led to widespread public awareness and policy changes regarding environmental protection. Carson’s writing combined scientific insight with lyrical prose, inspiring generations to care more deeply about the natural world. She believed passionately in the power of education and awareness to drive change. One of her most memorable quotes captures this spirit beautifully:

“The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.”
