Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

As we move into our second week of the new school year, it’s been lovely to see how well the children have settled back into school life. Classrooms are already full of energy, curiosity, and creativity as pupils begin exploring their exciting new topics and themes.
From imaginative storytelling to hands-on science investigations, there’s a real sense of enthusiasm across the school. Staff have been so impressed with how quickly the children have adapted to new routines and embraced the opportunities for learning and discovery.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic term ahead, full of growth, achievement, and plenty of memorable moments!

Bikes and Scooters Request
We are currently looking to expand the opportunities available to our Foundation Phase learners by introducing more outdoor physical activities. To support this, we would be incredibly grateful for any donations of suitable bikes or scooters that your child may have outgrown and are still in good working condition.
These resources will help our youngest pupils develop their balance, coordination, and confidence in a fun and engaging way during outdoor play.
If you have a bike or scooter, you’d be happy to donate, please speak to a member of staff or drop it off at the school office.

Supporting Independence and Resilience at Drop-Off
As we settle into the second week of term, we’d like to thank all our Foundation Phase families for the positive support shown during morning drop-offs. We understand that this time can be emotional, especially at the start of the school year, and we truly appreciate your care and understanding.
To help us build independence and resilience in our youngest learners, we kindly ask that parents leave the premises promptly after drop-off. Lingering—even with the best intentions—can sometimes make it more difficult for children to settle and may cause additional challenges at the start of their school day.
Our staff are here to support and comfort the children as they transition into the classroom, and your cooperation helps us create a calm and confident start for everyone. Thank you again for your continued support.

Home-School Agreement
At Rhos St School, we recognise each child as an individual, and aim to give all children every opportunity to realise their full potential. We believe that a close partnership between the school, parents and the child is essential if we are to achieve this aim.
It is therefore an expectation that all parents who wish their children to attend Rhos St School will agree to our Home School Agreement. We ask parents to share the Home School Agreement (attached) with their child, and we will also discuss it with them in school.

Head Lice
I have been informed of incidences of head lice in school this week. I would request that you check your child’s hair and treat if appropriate. Please see the information below regarding identification and treatment of head lice:
Head lice are small insects (no larger than a sesame seed when fully grown) with moving legs. They live very close to the scalp. Nits are not the same as lice. They are the egg cases which stick to the hair and look like specks of dandruff. You only have head lice if you find a moving louse (not a nit). Your head does not have to be itchy to have head lice.
Because of children’s play activity and direct head-to-head contact, head lice are usually found on children, but can also spread to adults. Head lice are caught from close family and friends in the home and community, as well as at school. Head lice live in all types of hair – dirty or clean, short, or long. Head lice walk from one head to another, when heads are in direct contact with each other – they do not fly, jump, or swim. It may be advisable to keep long hair tied back to reduce the chance of infection.
As most children will get head lice at some point or another, we strongly advise that our parents/carers routinely check their children’s hair for head lice at least weekly. Head lice is one of the conditions covered by the Common Ailments Scheme which is an NHS service that patients can access for free advice and free treatment and is available from 99% of pharmacies in Wales.

Year 5 Visit to the Living Classroom
Blwyddyn 5 kicked off their outdoor learning adventures this year with a fantastic first visit to the Living Classroom. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the space and were especially excited to pick apples, which will be used for spiraling activities and baking next week. It was a brilliant opportunity to connect with nature and begin thinking about seasonal changes and sustainability.
On the walk back to school, the class demonstrated excellent teamwork and community spirit by collecting litter along the way. Their enthusiasm and care for the environment were truly commendable, and it was lovely to see them taking pride in helping to keep our local area clean.
We’re proud of how responsibly and positively the children engaged with the experience, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they create with their apple harvest next week!

The Power of Reading Together
At Rhos Street CP School, we believe that fostering a love of reading is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our children—and it starts at home.
Reading with your child, even for just a few minutes each day, has a powerful impact on their education. It helps to build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop confidence in speaking and listening. More than that, it nurtures imagination, curiosity, and a lifelong love of stories and learning.
We encourage all parents and carers to make reading a regular part of your home routine. Whether it’s sharing a bedtime story, exploring a non-fiction book together, or letting your child read to you, these moments make a real difference.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us build strong, enthusiastic readers. If you’d like any recommendations for age-appropriate books or tips on how to make reading fun at home, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher.

Netball Club for Years 3–6
We’re excited to share that Mrs. Davies will be running a Netball Club for children in Years 3 to 6, starting soon. The club will take place on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 4:15pm.
Permission slips will be shared with interested children in the near future. We look forward to seeing lots of enthusiastic players getting involved!

Musical Inspiration for Our Juniors
On Monday, our junior pupils were treated to a wonderful cello and violin showcase by Mr. Barker and Mrs. Meirion, talented music teachers from the Denbighshire Music Cooperative. The performance was both inspiring and engaging, giving the children a chance to experience live classical music and learn more about these beautiful instruments. If you are interested in arranging music lessons for your child, please contact the school office for more information. We’d love to see more pupils exploring their musical talents.

Weekly Wellbeing
Alan Alexander Milne (1882–1956) was an English author best known for creating the beloved characters of Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin, and their friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. Originally a playwright and novelist, Milne found lasting fame through his children’s stories, inspired by his son, Christopher Robin Milne. His gentle, thoughtful writing continues to resonate with readers of all ages.
One of his most cherished quotes is:

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

This quote, spoken by Christopher Robin to Pooh, is a powerful reminder of the inner strength we all carry—even when we don’t realise it. For children, it encourages self-belief, resilience, and confidence. For adults, it’s a touching message about the importance of nurturing and reminding young people of their potential, especially during times of challenge or change.

Achievers
This week’s fantastic achievers are: Oscar, Eudora, Ayatur, Ellie, Caleb, Alfie, Sonny, Parker, Tristan, Rhys, Harlea.
Oscar shred his golf award and Eva shared her acting, and gymnastics awards.
Welsh awards this week went to: Rayne, Eden, Emily, Ethan, Evelyn, Theo, and Molly.
A very well done to this week’s amazing achievers.
