Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
This week began with the school taking part in an Estyn inspection, alongside our usual routines and learning. It has been a busy time for pupils and staff, with lots of activity taking place across the school.
Pupils enjoyed trips to the Living Classroom, where they took part in outdoor learning activities, as well as sessions with the Play Rangers, supporting active play and wellbeing. Some pupils also took part in Welsh reading activities with Ysgol Pen Barras, helping to develop their language skills and strengthen links with our local community.
After such a full week, the forthcoming long weekend will be very welcome for pupils and staff alike. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Living Classroom
Year 2 pupils enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Living Classroom this week, where they took part in a range of hands‑on outdoor learning activities. The children explored the natural environment, worked together on practical tasks, and deepened their understanding of nature and sustainability through first‑hand experiences. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and teamwork throughout the session. A big thank you to all staff who helped make the visit such a success.
Play Rangers
On Tuesday, our Reception pupils thoroughly enjoyed a session with the Play Rangers. The children took part in a range of fun, active games that encouraged cooperation, confidence, and physical development. The session provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop their social skills through play while staying active and engaged. It was lovely to see the children joining in with such enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Welsh Reading Session with Ysgol Pen Barras
On Tuesday, pupils took part in a Welsh reading session alongside pupils from Ysgol Pen Barras. The session gave children a valuable opportunity to practise their Welsh reading skills in a supportive and enjoyable way, while also building friendships with pupils from another school. It was lovely to see the pupils reading together with confidence and enthusiasm and benefiting from the shared experience.
Estyn Inspection
As you may be aware, Rhos Street School had an Estyn inspection this week. It has been a very busy and important process for the whole school community. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all parents and carers who took the time to complete the parental questionnaires and to those who attended the parents’ meeting with inspectors. Your views play a vital role in the inspection process and are greatly valued. The Estyn report is scheduled to be published on 1st July 2026.
Drop‑off Area Reminder (2.30–3.30pm)
We would like to remind parents and carers that the drop‑off areas are designated for taxis only between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. This arrangement is in place to help ensure the safe arrival and departure of pupils and to support our safeguarding procedures.
We kindly ask that private vehicles do not use these areas during this time. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep everyone safe.
Year 3 Space Café
Year 3 pupils invited parents and carers to join them for an exciting and action‑packed Space Café this week. During the session, pupils explored what it takes to train like an astronaut and took part in a range of engaging activities, including making rockets and using coding skills to control a vehicle as it travelled to all the planets in our solar system.
Pupils confidently shared their knowledge about space, presenting information about what they had learned and explaining their work to those who attended. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, creativity, and growing confidence as they spoke about their learning.
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support the Year 3 pupils – your involvement helped make the session such a success.
Reception and Year 6 Visit to the Living Classroom
Reception pupils enjoyed a lovely visit to the Living Classroom this week, exploring the signs of spring in the natural environment. The children took part in outdoor learning activities, observing changes in plants and wildlife and talking about what they could see around them.
The session was supported by our Year 6 pupils, who showed great maturity and responsibility throughout the visit. They were excellent role models, offering kind guidance, encouragement, and support to the younger children. It was wonderful to see the positive relationships between the pupils and the confidence this gave our Reception learners. Well done to both year groups for making the visit such a successful and enjoyable experience.
Tesco Tokens – Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt – Road Safety Project
As I’m sure you are aware Rhos St are leading on the Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt road‑safety collaboration project alongside Pen Barras and Ysgol Borthyn. This important initiative focuses on raising awareness of road safety and helping to keep our pupils, families, and wider school community safe.
The project is currently being supported through the Tesco Community Grant scheme. If you shop at Tesco and receive one of the blue tokens, please consider placing it in the slot for Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt. Every token makes a difference and helps support this valuable work across our schools.
Thank you very much for your continued support in helping us keep our children and community safe.
Weekly Wellbeing
This week’s quote is from Plutarch (c. AD 46–120) the Greek philosopher, historian and biographer from Chaeronea in Greece. He is best known for Parallel Lives, a series of biographies comparing Greek and Roman leaders to explore character and morality.
“Education is not the filling of a vessel, but the kindling of a fire.”
– Plutarch
