Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
The first newsletter in a while, due to a Mental Health First Aid course and trips to Pentrellyncymmer and Nant BH. The school is presently alive with Christmas performance preparations, a ‘Wooly-Bundles’ear-worm already inexorably wriggling its way into my head, and, as usual, the school is a hive of activity of all kinds. There have been signs of staff, all over the school, venturing Indiana Jones like, into the dark recesses of store cupboards, fighting off spiders and wrangling cardboard boxes full of tinsel, you can definitely sense a seasonal flavour, and the glint of a bauble or two, as you move around the place.
Reindeer Farm Visit
I shared previously, via email and Twitter, information regarding the visit to the North Hills Farm reindeer farm, please see attached letter. I am extremely grateful to the, always brilliant, Rhos St PTA for subsidising the visit and to our school admin team for organising all of the diverse elements that such trips require. In brief, the trip will take place on Dec 14th with Yrs. N, R, 1 & 2 visiting the farm in the morning and returning to school at approximately 12: 30pm. Nursery children, usually collected at 11:30am, will need to be collected at 12:30pm or arrangements made with Giggles Daycare. The children will have their lunch on their return to school at 12:30pm.
Yrs. 3, 4, 5, & 6 will have their lunch at 11:45am – 12: 15pm and will depart at
12: 30pm to North Hills Farm and will return to school by 3:15pm. Consent and payment for the visit need to be completed, via the ParentPay app by Friday 9th of December please. Children will need outdoor footwear and an appropriate winter coat and clothing for the day.
Pentrellyncymmer / Nant BH Photographs
After two very successful, if a little chilly at times, visits to Pentrellyncymmer and Nant BH outdoor education centres, the pictures taken have now been uploaded to the school’s Flickr account, accessible through the school’s website: https://rhosstreetschool.co.uk/ Internet and connectivity issues at the Nant BH site meant that it was impossible to share images of the children, at the centre and on activity, and keep parents and carers updated, as we usually like to do. Many thanks for bearing with us and for your patience in awaiting the photos, as you will see they are definitely worth the wait.
Christmas Concert Tickets
As our, much anticipated, Christmas concerts draw near I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you information regarding purchasing tickets for the respective shows. There will be a matinee and evening performance of the junior children’s Christmas show Squeak on Thursday 15th of December and a matinee and evening performance of the foundation learners’ show Tinsel and Tea Towels on Tuesday 20th of December.
Due to fire-safety regulations, limiting the number of people permitted in the school hall for each performance, two tickets will be allocated to each family per performance. Parents with children in both phases, foundation learners and juniors, will be allocated two tickets per show for both phases. Tickets cost £2.50 per ticket and can be purchased in the school office. In order to reduce congestion at busy times in the foyer, such as at drop off and pick up, ticket orders can also be left at the school office, with payment in cash and a note of the tickets required, in an envelope. These orders will then be processed during the day and the tickets sent home with your child. From Monday the 12th of December any tickets that have not been sold, for the junior concerts, and from Friday the 16th for the foundation learners’ shows, will be available for purchase, should additional tickets be required for extended family or friends.
Roof Works
We are very excited in school that Pen Y Bryn Joinery are beginning the works to reinstate the roof windows in the Yrs.5 and 6 corridor and to repair the damage caused to the roofing in the foundation learner’s wing. It has been over a year since storm Arwen wreaked havoc across the country, unfortunately taking its toll on the school in the process. Pen Y Bryn Joinery will be coming after school today to set up a safety enclosure, from which they will be working over the following days. On Monday (5th) the Yr. 6 pupils will be having their lessons in the Doughnut Room and all pupils will be using the foundation learners’ yard, at scheduled times, for break and lunch playtime. Pen Y Bryn are hoping to have the window units fitted within a day, but this may be affected by ice on the roof or wet weather. There are some additional works scheduled, on both school sites, for the next week or so, but these should have minimal impact on the running of the school. We are very much looking forward to being scaffolding free at last!
PTA Christmas Fair Volunteers
Rhos St PTA are looking for anyone who would be able to offer a helping hand at the forthcoming PTA Christmas Fair, on Tuesday 6th December. Please let Emma Phipps, or the school office know if you’re able to help out. Many thanks in advance.
Christmas Theme Day
A brilliant response to the PTA’s Christmas Theme day, many thanks to parents and carers for rooting in wardrobes to find those elusive Christmas jumpers. The children looked resplendent in their Christmas finery and there was a very tempting pile of chocolate donated for the PTA’s chocolate tombola. We are all very excited for the Christmas fair on Tuesday 6th,,please see poster attached with this email, as the festivities begin to ramp up here at school. More pics on Flickr soon!
