Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
Spring has sprung, if a little tentatively, this week with some lovely spells of sunshine and opportunities for pupils to spend time on the school field. The preparations for our Rhos St Eisteddfod came to fruition yesterday with some great Welsh language performances and wonderful displays of artistic talents. I hope the slight warming trend in the weather manages to cling on by the skin of its teeth through the end of the working week, and that you all have a great bank holiday weekend.
Language and Play Sessions
Language and play sessions are free to attend and take place throughout Denbighshire. The sessions are run by Family Link Workers on a weekly basis during term time. All of our sessions have planned activities that help children build language and social skills in preparation for school in a fun, friendly environment.
Language and Play sessions will be taking place at Rhos Street School from 1:15pm to 2:45pm on: Wednesday 8th, and 15th of May 2024.
Rhos Street School PTA’s £20.24 for 2024 spring challenge!
This summer term we are challenging each of you to raise £20.24! You can raise as much or as little as you like and do this on your own, as a family or in a team with your friends. Perhaps you could ask parents, grandparents or even neighbours to sponsor. Money can be raised in any way you choose; we want you to use your imagination and get creative with it!
All of the money that you raise will go to the school PTA, who help pay for resources, experiences, equipment and treats, with an aim to make your time at Rhos Street School the best it can be!
Here are a few ideas of how you could raise the money: Sell 24 cupcakes, keep your room tidy for 24 days, sell 24 old books or toys, hop 24 times a day for 24 days, help your family with 24 jobs, score 24 goals, dance for 24 minutes.
We have attached a sponsorship form, please bring any cash into school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class. We also have a JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/2024springchallenge
please use your child’s name and class as a reference on the website. The deadline for all donations is Friday 7th June 2024.The class that raises the most will receive a movie afternoon and snacks!
We would love to see the children having fun taking part in the challenge, you can share photos with us on facebook, twitter and Instagram by searching for Rhos Street PTA.
There is no pressure for your child/ren to take part in this challenge, it’s a bit of fun for fundraising but if they don’t want to join in that’s absolutely fine.
Good luck everyone and thank you for your continued support! Rhos St P.T.A
Play Equipment
I have been informed by staff in the Infant department that some children are playing on the equipment after handover at the end of the school day. I would request that parents and carers remind their children that this is not permitted as we have had children unfortunately injured whilst doing this. Many thanks for your support in relation to this safety issue.
Bikes, Trikes & Scooters Request
Mrs. Liddy and her foundation learners’ department would love donations of any outgrown, appropriately sized, bicycles, tricycles, or scooters for the children to use. Please speak to your child’s class teacher or to the admin team if you think you may have a bike, trike, or scooter to donate. Many thanks.
Lockdown Drill
As a vital part of our safeguarding at school we will be holding a Lockdown Drill on the afternoon of Wednesday 9th of May. The drill will involve the children moving into their classrooms, and staff ensuring that the school is locked and secured. Staff will be speaking to the children, prior to the drill, to explain what they need to do and reassure them that it is simply a practise, just like a Fire Drill, to keep them safe. Staff will be using the scenario of needing to lock the school doors if there was ‘A dog on the yard that we did not know.’, rather than relate it to some more serious threats, which may cause children distress or upset. This Lockdown Drill is extremely important in ensuring our ability to keep our leaners and staff safe and will be handled with great sensitivity with children being supported and reassured at every stage.
Teulu Cymru Childcare and support for families
Earlier this week, the Welsh Government launched Teulu Cymru, a new brand which brings its main childcare and parenting campaigns under one roof. Teulu Cymru or “Family of Wales,” is here for parents, carers and families of children aged 0-18, pointing them in the right direction for different Welsh Government sources of practical and financial support.
From parenting tips and expert development advice, to help with childcare costs- Teulu makes it a little easier to access this support in one place:

Rhos St Eisteddfod
We were so proud of the children of Rhos St who performed so brilliantly yesterday at our Rhos St Eisteddfod. The singing and poetry were top class and the display of artwork, based on this year’s Urdd theme of Energy, looked amazing. It was lovely also to welcome the Nursery Class and Little Acorns children in to enjoy the Eisteddfod. A huge thank you to the children for all their hard work in leaning and honing their performances, to the staff for preparing them so well, to Mrs. Lewis who organised the Eisteddfod and diligently practised the communal pieces every week in her Welsh Wednesday Service, and to parents, carers family and friends for coming along to support us here at school.

Staff Training Day Update
Just a quick reminder that the staff training day that had initially been scheduled, at the start of the year, for 3rd of June 2024 will now be on 14th June 2024.
Social Media
We have unfortunately had some issues this week with unaffiliated social-media groups which have caused upset for some children. We welcomed PC Llinos, our police liaison officer, on Tuesday who came into school to talk to some of the pupils about appropriate use of social media. I would request that parents and carers monitor their child’s social-media use to prevent further upset for children which then creates subsequent issues in school.
Tennis
Yesterday some of our Yr. s 5 and 6 pupils went along to the Ruthin Tennis Festival. They had an amazing time and leaned lots of new skills. A big thank you to Mrs. Davies and Jayne for looking after them at the event.

Our brilliant achievers this week are: All of Yr. 6, the Yr. 6 Tennis Crew, All of Yr. 5, the Yr. 5 Tennis Crew, Oscar, Eden, George, Daniel, Cecily, Chester, Thomas, Kitti, Zidan and all of the Reception Class.
