Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
A sunny, activity-packed week draws to its close…it doesn’t get any better than that. Samba drumming, Battle of the Bands, Lockdown Drill to name but a few of the things that have kept us busy this week as we move inexorably towards the half-term break.

Rhos Street School PTA’s £20.24 for 2024 spring challenge!
This summer term we are challenging each of you to raise £20.24! You can raise as much or as little as you like and do this on your own, as a family or in a team with your friends. Perhaps you could ask parents, grandparents or even neighbours to sponsor. Money can be raised in any way you choose; we want you to use your imagination and get creative with it!
All of the money that you raise will go to the school PTA, who help pay for resources, experiences, equipment and treats, with an aim to make your time at Rhos Street School the best it can be!
Here are a few ideas of how you could raise the money: Sell 24 cupcakes, keep your room tidy for 24 days, sell 24 old books or toys, hop 24 times a day for 24 days, help your family with 24 jobs, score 24 goals, dance for 24 minutes.
We have attached a sponsorship form, please bring any cash into school in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class. We also have a JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/2024springchallenge
please use your child’s name and class as a reference on the website. The deadline for all donations is Friday 7th June 2024.The class that raises the most will receive a movie afternoon and snacks!
We would love to see the children having fun taking part in the challenge, you can share photos with us on Facebook, twitter and Instagram by searching for Rhos Street PTA.
There is no pressure for your child/ren to take part in this challenge, it’s a bit of fun for fundraising but if they don’t want to join in that’s absolutely fine.
Good luck everyone and thank you for your continued support! Rhos St P.T.A

Bikes, Trikes & Scooters Request – Thank You
Many thanks to Thomas and Katherine, Isla’s mum, and dad for donating two lovely bicycles to us here at school. Were sure the infant children will absolutely love riding them around. Please speak to your child’s class teacher, or to the admin team if you think you may have a bike, trike, or scooter to donate. Many thanks.

Lockdown Drill
We had a very successful lockdown drill on Wednesday. All of the children responded brilliantly and were in their classrooms behind a locked doors in under four minutes. We will continue to practise out lockdown protocols over the summer term to make sure that it becomes second nature for all of our staff and learners.

Kick It Sports
Kick it Sports will be delivering the final one of this half term’s sessions on Monday 13th of May and are also offering a half-term sports club, at Rhos St School, on Tuesday 28th of May 9.00am – 3.00pm. Please follow this link to view details and book a place on the course: https://bookwhen.com/kickitsports#focus=ev-sg78-20240528090000

Disabled-Access Parking Spaces
I have been made aware by members of the school community that some of the disabled-access spaces at the site, provided for blue-badge holders only, are being used as pick-up and drop-off spaces, by Taxis or even as standard car park spaces where the vehicle is being left unattended. I would remind all car-park users that the disabled access spaces are solely for the use of blue-badge holders, who require the additional accessibility provided, to access the school safely. Could I also request that parents and carers refrain from using the Drop-Off area at the end of the school day as this area is designated for Taxis, we are currently awaiting signage, from Denbighshire County Council, to codify this. Please can the disabled-access spaces be used only by vehicles displaying a blue badge. I have shared this message with our friends and colleagues at Ysgol Pen Barras and requested that the message be shared with their school community also and have informed Denbighshire Transport Department of our concerns. Many thanks for your help and support regarding this very important matter.

Mural
Last week we welcomed back to Rhos St the extremely talented Chloe Dymond who worked with pupils to produce an incredible mural in the school hall. Chloe took inspiration from our school logo and local environment to design the mural and I’m sure you will agree it adds much-needed colour to our hall and looks absolutely amazing.

Samba Drumming
The Yr. 3 children had a fantastic time on Tuesday Samba Drumming with Johnny from Denbighshire Music Cooperative. Their focus, listening skills, behaviour and performances were exemplary, and they were praised to the hilt by Johnny for their positive attitudes and engagement. We’re so proud of them all.

Achievers
This week’s children exemplifying our Rhos St Core Values are: Mia-Rose, Charles, Rayne, Cora, Emilia, Ella, Thomas, Elliot, Rupert and Noah. Charlie shared his swimming certificate and Ella shared her dance-competition trophy. Well done to our fab achievers this week.
