Updated Contact & Medical Information
Can I please request that parents and carers update any contact details with us, if required, as it is extremely important that we hold the most up to date contact information for each pupil. Many I also request that any medical information, food intolerances / dietary requirements or allergy information are updated with us in school, including informing us if medication is no longer required, to ensure that we are able to offer the best care that we can in school. Contact information can be updated by email at office@ysgolrhosstreet.cymru or by telephoning the school office. Medical information can be updated by completing the very short, medical form, also available in the school office. Many thanks.
Uniform
We’re pleased to let families know that we have a large selection of pre-loved school uniform available in the school foyer. These items are free of charge and can be taken by any parent or carer. Choosing pre-loved uniform offers both environmental benefits—by reducing waste—and financial support, helping families manage costs more easily. We encourage everyone to make use of this resource.
Please can I request that all items of school uniform, and other belongings, are clearly named to help us return any lost property to the correct child.

Meeting Request Form – Supporting Communication
To support effective communication between home and school, we use a Meeting Request Form, which is available from the school office.
The form enables parents and carers to provide details of their query or concern, helping us direct it to the most appropriate member of staff and ensure it is addressed in a timely and supportive manner.
We value open and positive communication with our families and are committed to working together to resolve any questions or concerns with care and clarity. If you would like to arrange a meeting, please ask at the school office for a Meeting Request Form.
Medical Appointments and Attendance
We understand that medical and healthcare appointments are sometimes unavoidable. However, wherever possible, we ask that appointments are arranged outside of school hours to minimise disruption to your child’s learning.
If your child needs to attend a medical appointment during the school day, evidence of the appointment should be provided to the school. This may be in the form of an appointment letter, text message, appointment card or other official documentation.
Where this is not available, please collect a Medical Appointment Form from the school office. This must be completed and signed by the medical professional at the appointment and returned to school as soon as possible.
Please be aware that attendance is closely monitored, and supporting evidence helps us ensure that authorised medical appointments are recorded correctly. Thank you for your support in helping us maximise every child’s learning time in school.
The Importance of Reading with Your Child
Reading with your child is one of the most valuable things you can do to support their learning. Just a few minutes of reading together each day can make a significant difference to children’s language development, confidence, imagination and overall progress in school.
Reading regularly helps children to develop vocabulary, improve comprehension skills and become more fluent readers. It also encourages a love of books and storytelling, helping children to see reading as an enjoyable activity rather than a task.
We encourage all families to make time for reading at home each day. This could be listening to your child read, sharing a story together, discussing pictures and characters, or reading to your child. Even older children benefit greatly from reading aloud and talking about books with an adult.
Remember, every minute spent reading counts. By working together to develop strong reading habits, we can help children become confident, successful and lifelong readers.
A little reading every day really does make a big difference!
Snack Arrangements
As part of the Welsh Government’s Healthy Eating in Schools – Appetite for Life initiative, we are committed to promoting healthy eating habits and encouraging children to make positive food choices.
Children have the option to take part in our school snack scheme, which provides a fresh fruit or vegetable snack each day. The cost of school snack for this term is:
• £1.50 per week
• £11.10 per half term
• £21.60 per term
Snack money should be sent to school in a clearly labelled envelope, stating your child’s name and class.
Please note that there is no obligation for children to purchase snack from school. However, in line with our healthy eating policy and the Appetite for Life guidance, any snack brought from home must be fresh fruit or vegetables only.
Thank you for your support in helping us encourage healthy lifestyles and positive eating habits for all our learners.
The Importance of Good Attendance and Punctuality
At Rhos Street CP School, we place great value on regular attendance and punctuality, as they are key to helping children thrive both academically and socially.
Being in school every day and on time:
• Ensures children don’t miss out on vital learning and classroom activities.
• Helps build routines, confidence, and friendships.
• Encourages a strong work ethic and responsibility from an early age.
Even small amounts of missed time can add up and impact progress. We understand that illness and emergencies happen, but we ask all families to make every effort to ensure children arrive on time and attend daily.
If you ever need support with attendance or punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re here to help.
Keeping Our Children Safe Online
At Rhos Street CP School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. As technology continues to evolve, we regularly review our practices to ensure we are protecting our pupils’ privacy, wellbeing and digital safety.
Following careful consideration and growing national concerns about the misuse of children’s images online, including reports of photographs being manipulated through artificial intelligence (AI) to create inappropriate or indecent material, the school has taken the decision to stop sharing photographs of pupils on public platforms, including Flickr and X (formerly Twitter).
We recognise that families value seeing and celebrating the many achievements, experiences and learning opportunities that take place throughout the school year. Therefore, when appropriate, pupil photographs and videos will be shared through our school newsletter, which will now be distributed only via email rather than shared on X, and through our secure Google Classroom platform.
Google Classroom provides a significantly safer environment because:
• Access is restricted to authorised parents, carers and staff.
• Content is not publicly searchable on the internet.
• Images and videos are shared within a controlled school community.
• The platform provides greater oversight and control of access to pupil information and media.
Our X (Twitter) account will continue to operate and will remain an important channel for school news, reminders, announcements, celebrations and general communication. However, photographs or videos featuring pupils will no longer be shared through this public platform.
This change reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and ensuring that we take every reasonable step to protect children in an increasingly digital world. We hope parents and carers will support this proactive approach as we continue to review and adapt our practices in response to emerging online safety risks.
The safety, privacy and wellbeing of our children will always remain our highest priority.
Parent and Pupil WhatsApp & Social Media Groups
We recognise that many parents and carers are members of class WhatsApp groups and local social media pages. These groups can be a useful way of sharing reminders, arranging playdates and supporting one another as part of our school community.
However, we would like to remind families that these groups are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or managed by the school. As a result, information shared within them may not always be accurate, complete or up to date.
Unfortunately, misunderstandings, rumours and misinformation can sometimes spread quickly online. This can cause unnecessary concern for families, place staff in difficult situations and, most importantly, have a negative impact on children. If you have a question or concern about any aspect of school life, we kindly ask that you contact the school directly so that we can provide accurate information and support.
We are also increasingly aware of pupils creating or participating in WhatsApp groups, group chats and other social media platforms. Whilst these often begin with positive intentions, disagreements or inappropriate comments can sometimes occur outside school hours and then spill over into school the following day. This can lead to friendship issues, upset, anxiety and conflict between children, impacting their wellbeing and learning.
We encourage parents and carers to take an active interest in their child’s online activity, to discuss the importance of respectful communication and to monitor the apps and platforms they are using. A message sent online can quickly be shared beyond its intended audience and can have a significant impact on others.
By working together and using official school communication channels when seeking information or raising concerns, we can help ensure that our school community remains supportive, respectful and focused on what matters most: the wellbeing, happiness and success of our children.
If in doubt, please contact the school directly. We are always happy to help.
Music Lessons with Denbighshire Music Cooperative
Would your child like to learn a musical instrument this year?
If you are interested in arranging, or continuing, music lessons through the Denbighshire Music Cooperative during this academic year, please ensure that you return the registration form to school as soon as possible.
If you have misplaced your form or require an additional copy, spare forms are available from the school office.
Learning an instrument is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop new skills, build confidence and enjoy making music. We encourage anyone interested to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office for further information.

Weekly Wellbeing
Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was the 26th President of the United States. As a child, he faced health challenges but worked hard to overcome them through determination and perseverance. He is remembered for encouraging people to be brave, resilient and always do their best.
As we begin a new school year, this quote reminds us that having confidence in ourselves is often the first step towards success. Whether we’re making new friends, learning new things or trying something that feels a little challenging, believing in our abilities can help us achieve more than we think possible.
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
