Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

As the third week of term comes to an end, it’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks are flying by. The weather certainly hasn’t been able to make up its mind, with a mixture of sunshine, showers and everything in between, but our pupils have taken it all in their stride!
It has been another busy and productive week across the school. Children are becoming increasingly confident in their new classes, engaging enthusiastically with their learning and settling well into routines. We have been delighted to see learners showing resilience, kindness and a positive attitude both in and out of the classroom.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. The strong partnership between home and school plays a vital role in helping our children thrive. We look forward to another exciting week ahead and sharing more of our pupils’ achievements with you in future newsletters.

Foundation Phase Morning Drop-Offs
As we come to the end of the third week of term, we would like to thank our Foundation Phase families for their continued support during morning drop-offs. It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence and becoming increasingly settled in their new routines.
To further support the development of independence and resilience, we kindly ask parents and carers to leave the premises promptly after drop-off. Although it is always well intentioned, remaining on site can sometimes make it more difficult for children to settle fully and begin their day positively.
Our staff are always on hand to welcome, reassure and support the children as they enter school. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in helping us create a calm, happy and confident start to the school day for all learners.

Singing Club Opportunity
We are delighted that Rachel from Denbighshire Music Co-operative will be starting a new Singing Club for pupils in Years 3 to 6. The club will take place at lunchtime on Tuesdays and will provide children with the opportunity to develop their singing skills, build confidence and enjoy making music together.
At Ysgol Rhos Street, we are passionate about providing a wide range of musical experiences for our pupils, and singing is a fantastic way for children to express themselves, work collaboratively and have fun.
We are very grateful to Rachel for giving up her time to lead this opportunity and look forward to hearing the children perform as the club develops throughout the year. We hope lots of pupils will take advantage of this exciting opportunity.

Head Lice Information for Parents and Carers
We have been made aware of a number of cases of head lice within the school. Head lice are very common among primary-aged children and can spread through close head-to-head contact.
Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat promptly if live lice are found. Effective treatments are available from pharmacies, and support may be available through the Common Ailments Scheme, which provides free advice and treatment for eligible patients.

Photography and Video Consent Form
Along with this week’s newsletter, you will receive an updated Photography and Video Consent Form. The form allows parents and carers to tell us how photographs and videos of their child may be used by the school.
We use images to celebrate learning, share achievements and keep families informed about school life. The form asks for your permission in relation to:
• School newsletters shared with parents, carers and governors.
• Google Classroom and other secure educational learning platforms.
• Displays within school.
• External media and press coverage.
• Video recordings of school events, such as concerts, performances and assemblies.
Please note that consent is not required for certain internal school purposes, including pupil identification, safeguarding, welfare, assessment, and evidencing educational progress and development. These uses are covered by the school’s legal responsibilities and are explained in our Privacy Notice.
A few important points:
• Please complete one form per child.
• The form will remain valid until it is updated or withdrawn.
• You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the school.
• We will not publish pupils’ full names alongside photographs or videos.
We would be grateful if completed forms could be returned to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible. Thank you for your support in helping us celebrate and share the many achievements and experiences of our pupils.

Parking and Road Safety: Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt
We have received a number of concerns from members of our school community regarding vehicles continuing to park on the double yellow lines outside the school. This creates a significant safety risk, as children can be difficult to see when crossing the road, particularly when they emerge from between parked vehicles.
We have also been made aware of instances of inappropriate and inconsiderate parking within the school car park. The car park is a shared space used by staff, visitors, parents and carers, and we all have a responsibility to ensure it remains safe for everyone, especially our children.
As part of our ongoing “Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt” initiative, we will continue to work with pupils, parents, carers, and the wider community to promote safe and responsible behaviour around the school site and local area. We are also in consultation with Denbighshire County Council and North Wales Police regarding the concerns that have been raised.
We kindly ask all parents and carers to park responsibly, considerately and legally at all times, both in the school car park and on the roads surrounding the school. By working together and setting a positive example for our children, we can help ensure that everyone arrives at and leaves school safely.

OBR Construction Visit
Blwyddyn 6 enjoyed a fantastic session learning about the construction industry and the wide range of careers it offers. They explored the skills needed in construction, including creativity, maths, communication, and teamwork, before putting them into practice by working in pairs to design and build a bridge within a set budget. The children were enthusiastic and fully engaged throughout. A huge thank you to Gwennan from OBR Construction for delivering such an enjoyable and inspiring experience.

Fidget Toys and Items on School Bags
We recognise that some children benefit from using fidget toys to help them concentrate, regulate their emotions, and engage successfully in learning. We are happy to support the use of fidget toys in school where they have been discussed and agreed with the child’s class teacher.
To help minimise distractions and prevent items from being lost or traded, we kindly ask that only one fidget toy into school each day. Recently, we have noticed some pupils bringing several fidget toys and attempting to swap or trade them with friends, which can lead to disagreements and takes focus away from learning.
We would also like to ask parents and carers to avoid sending children to school with large numbers of decorative items, keyrings, toys, or other “knick-knacks” attached to school bags. These items can easily become lost or damaged, create distractions during the school day, and can sometimes cause disagreements between pupils.
