Mawrth 13eg/ March 13th

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

It’s been another lively week at Rhos Street—complete with what felt like fifteen seasons of weather in just a few days! Our spirits weren’t dampened though, especially with the excitement of Rhos St’s Got Talent, where pupils shone with creativity and confidence.
Our Yr. 3 learners also enjoyed their first experiences with music, exploring instruments and rhythms with curiosity and joy. Alongside this, we celebrated Empathy Week, taking time to think about kindness, understanding, and the importance of supporting one another.
Enjoy this week’s highlights!

The Big Walk and Wheel – Coming Soon!
We’re excited to share that our school will once again be taking part in The Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s largest inter‑school walking, wheeling, and cycling challenge.
From 16th – 27th of March we’ll be encouraging all pupils to walk, wheel, scoot, or cycle to school as often as they can. The aim is simple: to get active, reduce traffic at the school gates, help the environment, and start each day feeling energised and ready to learn.
Children can take part in whatever way suits them — walking, using a wheelchair, scooting, cycling, or even “park and stride” if you live further away.

Why take part?

⭐ Improves physical and mental wellbeing 🌍 Reduces congestion and pollution around school
🚦 Helps build healthy long‑term travel habits 😄 It’s fun — and there are prizes available nationally!

We’ll be tracking our daily journeys and celebrating the amazing effort our learners put in. Every journey counts, whether it’s once a week or every day.

Thank you for your support in helping us make this year’s Big Walk and Wheel our best yet!

Missing Reading Folder – Please Check at Home
Evelyn Harrison’s named reading folder is currently missing and may have been accidentally taken home by another pupil.
We kindly ask families to take a moment to check at home, in book bags, and in any usual reading spots. If it has been picked up by mistake, please return it to school as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help in locating it.

Resilience Poster Competition – Years 2–6
We are excited to launch a whole school Resilience and Growth Mindset Poster Competition for pupils in Years 2–6. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to celebrate the importance of being brave, keeping going when things are tricky, and learning from mistakes.
Children are invited to design a bright, colourful A4 poster that shares a positive resilience message such as “Mistakes help us learn!”, “Keep trying!”, or “Brave learners don’t give up!”. Posters should include clear, bold lettering and creative illustrations or patterns.
All entries should be completed on the reverse of the sheet provided, with the pupil’s name and class written on the back (not the front).
The competition is open to all pupils, and one winning poster from each class will receive a special prize.
Closing date: Friday 10th April
Top tips for pupils:
• Make your message easy to read
• Use bright colours that stand out
• Choose a positive, inspiring growth mindset phrase
• Be creative and have fun!
We can’t wait to see the wonderful, uplifting designs our learners create.

The Importance of Attendance, and Punctuality
At Rhos Street School, we are committed to giving every child the best possible learning experience. Good attendance and punctuality play a huge part in this. When pupils arrive on time and attend regularly, they feel settled, make stronger progress, and benefit fully from the rich learning opportunities each day offers.
Attendance matters. Even small amounts of absence can add up quickly. Missing lessons means children can find it harder to keep up with new learning and routines. We understand that children may occasionally be unwell, and we appreciate parents keeping us informed, but we encourage all families to aim for the highest attendance possible.
Punctuality is equally important. The start of the school day sets the tone for everything that follows. Arriving late can be unsettling for children, and they may miss key instructions, social time with peers, and important learning moments that support confidence and independence.
We also kindly remind families that holidays should not be taken during term time. These absences can have a significant impact on progress and are only authorised in exceptional circumstances. Keeping children in school during term time ensures continuity, consistency, and the best chance of success.
Thank you for your continued support in helping all our pupils make the most of every school day. Together, we can ensure that every child has the strongest possible foundations for learning and well being.

Rhos Street’s Got Talent – A Fantastic Celebration of Pupil Voice and Creativity
What a joy it was to watch this yesterday’s Rhos Street’s Got Talent event! Planned and led entirely by our brilliant School Council, the afternoon was a wonderful showcase of confidence, creativity, and pupil leadership. Their organisation, enthusiasm, and teamwork were clear to see, and they should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
The standard of performances this year was exceptionally high. Every act brought something unique, courageous, and entertaining to the stage, making the competition truly fierce. Each performer really did feel like a worthy winner.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our panel of judges, who had an incredibly difficult job choosing winners from such a talented group of pupils. Their thoughtful feedback and encouragement helped make the event even more special.
Our sincere thanks as well to Mrs. Price, who supported the School Council throughout their planning and preparation. Her guidance helped them shape an event that was well organised, inclusive, and full of fun. Huge congratulations to Hannah and Kalani, our worthy Infant and Junior winners.
Well done to all involved—what a brilliant celebration of talent, teamwork, and pupil voice at Rhos Street School!
