Hydref 23ain/ October 23rd

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

As we reach the end of another busy half term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our pupils, families and staff for their hard work and support over the past few weeks.

This final week has certainly been a memorable one, with Parent Consultation Evenings, our Harvest Celebrations, Dr Bike, & Bikeability sessions, a lockdown drill, Urdd football, and, of course, our fantastic Halloween Fancy Dress Day. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, resilience and positivity shown by our pupils throughout such a full and varied programme of activities.

As always, the half term seems to have flown by, and I am sure everyone is ready for a well-earned break. We hope that all of our families have a relaxing, enjoyable and safe half term holiday, and we look forward to welcoming the children back refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.

Parent Consultation Evenings
I would like to thank all parents and carers for the fantastic support and engagement shown during this week’s Parent Consultation Evenings. The meetings provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate pupils’ successes, discuss their progress and strengthen the important partnership between home and school. We greatly appreciate the positive conversations and continued support for your children’s learning and wellbeing.

Harvest Celebrations
We are incredibly proud of all our children who took part in this week’s Harvest celebrations.
Our Reception to Year 6 pupils represented the school superbly during our Harvest Service at St Peter’s Church on Tuesday. They sang beautifully, spoke confidently and demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout, making it a very special occasion for everyone who attended.
We were equally proud of our Nursery children, who enjoyed their own Harvest Celebration in school. It was wonderful to see them perform so enthusiastically and share their learning with family members and friends.
A particular highlight was seeing the generosity of our school community. Thank you to everyone who donated items for our Harvest collections. Your kindness and support will help local people in our community who may be facing difficult circumstances.
Diolch yn fawr to all the staff, pupils and families who helped make our Harvest celebrations such a success.

Dr Bike and Bikeability
It has been a very bike-focused week at Rhos Street, with pupils enjoying a range of activities designed to promote safe and confident cycling.
Earlier this week, Year 6 children worked with the team from Dr Bike, learning more about bicycle maintenance and how to keep their bikes safe and roadworthy. A huge thank you to the Dr Bike team for delivering such engaging and informative sessions.
Yr. 6 also took part in Bikeability training with Denbighshire Leisure yesterday. Throughout the programme, children developed their road safety awareness and learned essential cycling skills to help them travel safely and confidently. These important life skills will support pupils in becoming responsible and independent road users, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and progress throughout the sessions.
Thank you to everyone involved in making these opportunities possible for our children.

Lockdown Drill
As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and keeping our school community safe, we carried out a lockdown drill yesterday.
We were extremely proud of how positively all pupils and staff engaged with the exercise. Children responded calmly, sensibly and maturely throughout, following instructions carefully and demonstrating an excellent understanding of the importance of these procedures.
Whilst we hope that such measures are never needed, practising our emergency procedures is an important part of ensuring that everyone knows what to do should the need ever arise. The drill provided a valuable opportunity to review our arrangements and reinforce our commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all.
A big thank you to our pupils and staff for the responsible and positive manner in which they approached the exercise.

Halloween Fancy Dress Day
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our PTA Halloween Fancy Dress Day this week.
Pupils arrived at school in a fantastic array of Halloween-themed costumes and really embraced the spirit of the day. From witches and wizards to pumpkins, superheroes, and spooky characters, it was wonderful to see so much creativity and enthusiasm on display.
Events such as these not only create lasting memories for our children but also help support the fantastic work of our PTA, who continually give their time and energy to enhance opportunities for our pupils.
Thank you to all families for your support and to the PTA for organising another enjoyable event. The children had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Halloween fun!

PTA Volunteers Needed for Snack Attack
As always, our Rhos Street PTA do a fantastic job supporting the school and providing opportunities for our pupils.
The PTA is currently looking for volunteers to help with Snack Attack on Fridays. If you can spare a little time to help, it would be greatly appreciated.
If you are interested or would like to find out more, please get in touch with Casey, Chair of the PTA.
Thank you for your continued support of the PTA and the valuable work they do for our school community.

Nant BH – Outstanding Payments
This is a gentle reminder that any outstanding payments for the Nant BH residential visit should be made by 28th of October 2026 via ParentPay.
We are looking forward to the trip and would love for all children to be able to take part. However, in order to confirm final arrangements with the centre, all balances must be cleared by this date. Unfortunately, if payment has not been received by 28th of October 2026, we may be unable to offer your child a place on the visit.
Thank you for your support.

Year 3 & 4 Football Success
Well done to our Year 3 and 4 football teams, who represented Rhos Street brilliantly at the Urdd football competition yesterday. Both teams displayed excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, competing with great enthusiasm while supporting and encouraging one another every step of the way.
We are especially proud that one of our teams finished as runners-up, securing an impressive second-place finish and earning a place in the next round in Aberystwyth. This is a fantastic achievement and a reward for their hard work and commitment.
A special congratulations also goes to Raf, who was deservedly named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the day.
The pupils were excellent ambassadors for our school, demonstrating our Rhos Street values through their teamwork, respect and positive attitudes. We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part and wish the qualifying team the very best of luck in the next round.

Weekly Wellbeing
At Halloween, it’s fun to dress up and pretend to be someone or something else for the day. However, it’s important to remember that our greatest strength is being ourselves. Every child brings their own talents, interests, ideas and personality to our school community. By celebrating our differences and appreciating what makes each of us unique, we help create a school where everyone feels valued, included and proud to be who they are.

“Behind every costume is someone special. This Halloween, celebrate what makes you uniquely you. The things that make us different are often the things that make us shine the brightest.”

Golfing Success for Billy and Harri
Congratulations to Billy and Harri, who were part of the Pwllglas Golf Club Junior Sixes Team this year.
The team competed in the Wales Golf Junior Sixes Championship, travelling to seven different golf clubs across North Wales and competing against young golfers from across the region. We are delighted to share that Pwllglas Golf Club were crowned champions, a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.
Well done to Billy, Harri and the whole team on this outstanding success. We are very proud of you!
