Dear Parents & Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
The Living Classroom has been a place to be very proud of this week! First of all, it provided the harvest that produced a stupendous apple and blackberry crumble, which was enjoyed by all who tasted it, including yours truly. In addition to this, it was a place where Year 6 bonded with the Reception pupils as they took them on a tour of our special outdoor learning spot.

Mae’r Dosbarth Byw wedi bod yn le i fod yn falch iawn ohono yr wythnos hon! Yn gyntaf oll, fe ddarparodd y cynhaeaf a oedd yn cynhyrchu crymbl afal a mwyar duon hynod flasus, a fwynhawyd gan bawb a’i blasodd. Yn ogystal â hyn, roedd yn le gwnaeth Blwyddyn 6 fondio â disgyblion y Dosbarth Derbyn wrth iddynt fynd â nhw ar daith o amgylch ein man dysgu awyr agored arbennig.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, headteacher / Pennaeth

Living Classroom Tour – It was lovely to hear how the Reception and Year 6 pupils befriended one another and the photograph on twitter is an indicator of the lovely warmth that was to be seen between the oldest and youngest full time pupils. Long may it continue.

PTA Pantomime 2020 – We have booked to visit the panto again this academic year. On Wednesday, January 8th all classes from Reception to Year 6 will visit Theatre Clwyd for the annual rock and roll pantomime. The PTA have kindly offered to fund the buses and also subsidise the ticket price, so the contribution requested from parents is £7.50. This is a wonderful gesture by the PTA and I’m grateful to them for being able to keep the cost down for what should be a fantastic event for our pupils. Payment can be made via Parent Pay.

Brynhyfryd Open Evening – Year 6 pupils and parents have received notice of the Open Evening at Brynhyfryd on October 10th. Years 5 and 6 have also received letters regarding transition activities during this academic year.

Intergenerational Event – Year 6 pupils enjoyed visiting, entertaining and chatting to some elderly residents at Trem y Foel this week. They were given a great welcome, sang some songs with the elderly and shared refreshments.

Urdd Membership – It is that time of year again to join the Urdd and there will be lots going on. Forthcoming events include the girls’ and boys’ football tournaments. Mrs Lewis has already started working with the creative dancers for the Eisteddfod and there will be all manner of other competitions in that Eisteddfod, which of course is held in Denbighshire for the national event. There will also be art and craft opportunities. I have sent out a pro-forma so that we can add all interested pupils names to parent pay in order to pay for the subscription, which is £8, increasing to £10 after Christmas.

School Council Charity Initiative – Our School Council have decided on their first activity of the year and it promises to be an exciting one. They are raising money for the Red Cross to support refugees. Between 30th Sept and Oct 14th, they are encouraging pupils to complete as many miles as possible. These miles can be completed by walking, running, swimming or cycling. The fundraiser will conclude with the pupils taking part in a communal fun run on the school field. The money raised will help address those refugees affected by global humanitarian crises. Sponsor forms have been sent home today.

Medical Forms – In order to ensure that we can ensure all our records are up to date and that we can fully safeguard our pupils, please ensure that all medical forms sent home are filled and returned.

Medical Appointments – If your child has to miss part of the school day for a medical appointment, please ensure that we are provided with a copy of the appointment form or card. Many thanks.

Whole Class Brass Lessons – Year 3 have been enjoying weekly brass lessons with Mr Powell. They have been very enthusiastic and are developing some good skills already!

PTA Xmas Cards – This week, our pupils have been designing Christmas Cards (I know…) However, they have been doing so, because you can make an order for their design to be made into a set of cards for you to give when Xmas does eventually arrive (at the time of writing 89 days.) Please fill the form on the other side of the design and place in an envelope with the money for your order. Could we receive them by Monday October 7th please.

Art Club – Please ensure that forms are filled and placed in envelopes with payment for the 4 sessions on Monday. Many thanks.

PPTA Meeting
– There will be a PPTA meeting with Lucy Purvis PTA Chair next Tuesday. I’m sure the pupils will have lots of ideas!

Welsh Reading Books – Our Criw Cymraeg have organised that Welsh books have been sent home for some of our pupils to enjoy. Maybe Mum, Dad, Nain, Taid or an Uncle or Auntie could read with them and help!

Welsh Apps – On twitter you’ll see a poster with ideas for apps you can download to support your child at home in learning Welsh.

Reading Challenge – We had another big group of children receiving certificates this week. The Reading Challenge comes to an end this weekend so there’s a final chance to complete it.
