Medi 15fed / September 15th

Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,

Wow, where did that week go! As we get to the end our our second week in school I can’t praise the children enough for how well they have returned to school, focussed and ready to work. I have been so impressed by the foundation learners who have got into the swing of their new, playtime and morning routine with aplomb. It has been so lovely to see all the children smartly moving around the school and the excellent behaviour in the dinner hall. It augurs well for the coming school year and the achievements to come.

School Vision
We have a new vision here at Rhos St school, based on respect, kindness and being your best self. We wish a very fond farewell to our previous vision of Providing opportunity, realising potential and enriching learners, Together with our new school vision:

Be Respectful – Byddwch yn Gwrtais
Be Kind – Byddwch yn Garedig
Be Your Best – Byddwch ar eich Gorau

We think that this encompasses and represents everything that we believe at Rhos St School: Respect for ourselves, for others, our community, diversity and for our planet. Kindness as a first principle in all that we do and a focus on being the very best person that we can be.

Homework at Rhos St School
At Rhos St we appreciate the importance, and impact on attainment, of regular practise of the fundamentals. Although we do not regularly send home written homework we recognise and value the importance of children spending focussed time at home practising reading, spelling and number. We actively encouraged parents and carers to make the commitment to develop a culture of spending a few minutes a day working with their child. The tasks sent home vary from yeargroup to yeargroup and may include a reading book, word book, spelling book as well as a specific times table/s to practise, for the older classes. Your support in this is crucial for your child to reach their full potential. There is extensive evidence on the positive impact of parental engagement. Positive effects have been demonstrated for reading outcomes as well as other language and number skills. You can help with this homework by remembering that quality matters more than quantity (15mins of focused time is all that is needed.), establishing a regular routine and habits, showing interest and providing encouragement. I would like to thank you in advance for your support in relation to this key aspect of your child’s learning and development.

Y Hen Lys / The Old Courthouse Opening
A big thank you to Tommy, from the Yr. 6 class, who has volunteered to represent Rhos St school at the opening of the Old Courthouse, Yr Hen Lys, on Saturday at 11.00am. We received a request in school from Ruthin’s mayor, Anne Roberts, for a pupil representative from Rhos St, as part of a delegation from local schools, to take part in the opening ceremony. We are really grateful to Tommy and his family for giving their time. I hope they have a very enjoyable morning; fingers crossed there will be cake.
