Dear Parents and Carers / Annwyl Rieni a Gwarchodwyr,
A week to go until half term and today, the PTA have of course organised the Disco for after school. All details are once again on the attached poster. I hope we have a good turnout! The lengthening days and brighter weather are hopefully a sign that Spring draws ever nearer, which of course will mean that the amount of outdoor learning here can develop ever further.

Gyda wythnos i fynd tan hanner tymor, mae’r CRhA wedi trefnu Disco ar gyfer heno. Gobeithio bydd nifer yn mynychu’r digwyddiad! Mae’r dyddiau hirach a tywydd ffafriol yn arwydd bod y Gwanwyn ar ei ffordd. Bydd hyn yn galluogi’r plant i ddysgu tu allan fwy fwy.

Yours sincerely,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Green School Status Take 5 – News that may have slipped under the radar due to the coverage of our Estyn report, is that for the 5th consecutive year, Rhos Street School has been categorised as a ‘Green School.’ The National Categorisation System has, since its inception five years ago, provided a clear structure to review how well a school performs year on year. It takes into consideration how effectively the school is led and managed, the quality of learning and teaching, and the level of support and challenge it needs to do better. Naturally, we’re proud of this ongoing achievement and recognise the contribution of everybody in the school community to the success of Rhos Street School.

Chinese New Year – Have a look in the Free Press for a lovely article on Giggles’ Chinese New Year celebrations, which involved a visit from Chinese children to help them gain a better understanding of this wonderful annual festival and become global citizens. Congratulations to Anna and her team for organising such marvellous activities in our pre-school group.

HiQ Presentation – A huge thank you to HiQ Automark, Ruthin for visiting, in order to present goodie bags to Year 1 pupils and parents. Sarah Hughes entered the class in a competition which also included a prize of £1000 Amazon vouchers for the winning school. Brilliant news!

School Council Collaboration – A really positive development this academic year has been the increased collaboration between ourselves and Pen Barras and once again this week, the two School Councils met, to discuss a range of issues.

Year 5 Art Project – This week’s creative project involved Year 5 expressing themselves through musical composition and performance and they ended the day showcasing their work in front of Year 2.

Year 2 Art Project – The morning session down at The Living Classroom, saw Blwyddyn 2 making a giant using natural materials. In the afternoon they were supported by Blwyddyn 5 in producing animations.

Twitter – As stated previously, daily tweets give an even greater picture of what goes on in and around our busy classrooms. Additional activities not mentioned in this newsletter from Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as other snippets, news and general nonsense can be found on our feed @rhosstreet. Join the hundreds who view our tweets on a daily basis. Our tweets have been collectively viewed over 80,000 times over the last 28 days. The twitter feed is also viewable on the website’s homepage.

Batman Themed Lunch – On Monday, the canteen will serve up a Batman themed lunch. See twitter for the menu.

Family Service – Next Friday will be Year 4’s Family Service. Parents and relatives welcome at 9am.

Personal Details – A county wide exercise to review personal information held by school was undertaken before Xmas. If you are yet to return the form confirming those details, please do so at your earliest convenience.

Plastic Bottle Request – Rev. Stuart is appealing for plastic bottles in order to use them for an Art Project. Could you bring some in for us to pass on to him? Any we collect will be picked up on February 22nd. Diolch yn fawr.
